In North we also feed it to cattle but stuble quantity is so huge that we have to burn it. Plus the time frame to sow next crop is so less that burning stuble is the most economical way. (Why time frame is so less?) because punjab gov and haryana gov banned farmers to plant paddy crop before 20 July to conserve water.

Bio gas Bio feed for cattle Bio cellulose for paper and disposable products. Etc.

this straw can even be simply powdered to use in eco friendly construction. straw powder mixed with clay and cow dung can be shaped into bricks. that will save the cost of so many process in making it a pulp and making disposable cutlery. it will still have to be "disposed" !! whereas making bricks out of it can be a permanently used in building eco friendly homes. Shredded straw can be used to make ropes and can be used to make mats , tents, carpets. these straws can be reused with minimum processing if used in this way. no need of any machinery except for dry grinding them into a powder or shredding them to a wool kind of consistency to make ropes out of it.

It seems that just tilling in the residual material after harvest would enrich the soil and help it retain moisture. But maybe they are planting in rapid succession, so the material would use up too much carbon. They could also harvest it and use it for mulch between the rows once it's pulverized. India has some amazing soil.

You are right. It's already well known that the main reason farmers resort to stubble burning there is because they have to plant the next crop quickly to get the yield before winter gets harsh. The problem is more of time management than disposal.

As far as I know, these farmers resort to stubble burning because they lack time before the need to plant the next crop. This does provide a small incentive for farmers to utilize the hay, but it still demands additional resource inputs and energy. Using hay for mushroom cultivation, would be less resource intensive for small farmers. All of that still only provides solution for the disposal. But I don't see this giving any solution to the actual reason why farmers would rather burn it- quick removal of the stubble. What they need is cost effective full or semi- mechanization to remove the stubble quickly. That along with such options to turn the stubble into another income source could stop the farmers from burning them. As long as burning it remains the cheapest, risk free way to remove the stubble, they will still be prompted to continue

@hoangkybactien7207
@hoangkybactien7207 5 жыл бұрын
@@ravindrakaware4596 If it is whole rice plant, then consider this idea: Do you know how OSB sheath boards are made? They are made from wooden chips. Useless and small trees are chopped into thin chips like potato chips. Then add some glue and put into high pressure press to turn it into sheath board. Rice plants have stronger fibres than wood chips, and much much longer 3-5ft) than wood chips (average 2inches). Thus, rice plants after shedding are good candidate to make OSB sheath boards (almost the same as plywood). Sheath boards are used to make furniture such as table top, counter top, dry wall for room partitioning, roof, etc. The only technical issue is to figure out a simple and inexpensive machine that can have enough pressure to press it into, says, 1m x 2m panels or whatever sizes the market demands.

@@ravindrakaware4596 I am not talking about rice husk. Rice husk are used as food to feed pigs in Thailand, Cambodia and China. The subject being discussed here is the whole rice PLANT, not those tiny rice husks. So far, poor farmers use them as roof over their mud houses. The idea here is to use whole rice plants as a substitute for wood chips, to make what I call 'whole rice plant' pannel/board. The life of these boards depends on 2 factors: 1. types of glue and 2. How hard they are compressed. There are videos on youtube showing how OSB boards are made.

in china there are big factories that make this . To expand slightly - straw = cellulose +++ and Lignin. This lignin binds the cellulose & a sticky brown material. If this is removed, then it is a pure pulp , or paper. Adding sizing materials, small amount of oils, etc we can make paper plates -of food grade or compatible - WHICH WILL BIO DEGRADE. iN THAILAND also straw made paper plates are available.
