Here in the woods at Bentley Woodfair, textiles expert, Mo Jackson, shares her knowledge and passion for experimenting with the unpredictable art of eco printing. What a delight to see Mo Jackson working with those young girls and introducing them to this art. Even more fun to hear their delighted gasps when then unrolled the piece and peeled it back to discover the beautiful design that they had made.

I've done a few batches over the past 2 or 3 years and this is, without a doubt, addictive. I call myself the 'leaf theif' as I drive around town eyeballing the lovely trees and shrubs of unsuspecting people....bahahahah! Yesterday, I thought I'd try a batch with only vinegar, no iron or any other metal...fair warning, it didn't work at all. It all goes back into the dye pot today with my rusty bits to do their magic - thanks for sharing this great video!

Vinegar, alum , iron water are mordants. They are fixatives. Help the tannin in the leaves to fix into the cloth.

What a wonderful video. I have only just discovered eco dyeing and I am hooked. It was wonderful seeing the look on the girls faces when they opened their bundle. Thats how I feel with every page. I have only tried this with paper, but that boiling urge has reared its head again and now I want to try this with fabric whilst I still have a few leaves left on the trees. The jacket you showed at the beginning of the video was gorgeous 💕

Lovely, thank you. Do you put the rolled tubes in plain boiling water or do you add the alum or what ever in that bottle to the boiling water? What is the ratio of the alum mixture in your bottle? Thanks so much I just loved this.

There are various kind of Ecoprint procces but for the simple one u can boiled with Alum or with little bit iron..

I sure hope she told the kids to wash their hands after handling the leaves that were in the iron solution. Quite irresponsible. (while wearing a glove herself).
