ECO-WORTHY Solar Tracker amzn.to/3zDFhdP
It's been a year since I installed the Eco-Worthy solar tracker, so I thought I would do a quick update.

Thanks for the recap. I received my new tracker yesterday. Was fairly impressed, was worried and prepared there would not be instructions, but there was. Albeit the translation and grammar kind of threw me off a few times. The weakest part, which I found, was the when I accidentally cross thread the bolt in to thread insert, it stripped out the insert from the weld. Which ended up with an hour or two of cursing. Also I see they went with welded steel pivots points vs the aluminum ones. The solar sensor looks to be different as well. Also the base mounting plate has six anchor points vs the four I’ve seen on prior models. Will be taking it up to the cabin tomorrow and preparing the foundation and rest of the setup for a 4 panel array. Hoping to start tracking the sun by end of day or by Sunday. Thanks again for the review and tips.

Apologies for the late response. It’s been tracking well. However, lesson learned - the three m10 90mm bolts sheared off due to stress point. Replaced with actual m10 bolts and made the holes larger. Otherwise still working, but looking to see how I can that dang shaking taken care of.

For the money I think I’ll be sticking with 3 of the eco-worthy ground mounts. I was thinking about getting this style however I want to set it and forget it. Thanks for sharing your experience though, but I think I’ll just add some more panels to the ground units.

Great recap Perfect solution Add a small re-cycle car or truck hydraulic shock…if you use a gas filled…drill a hole and add a threader valve tire fitting…..your set up is tiny….mine is massive requiring a larger shock.

Thank you for posting this I haven't read through all the comments but I will get through them here shortly looking to understand what's the strongest wind so far the system has been stressed under also looking for a comment from Mark from to get his update I'm looking at putting this on a mountain in North Carolina

Hi, thanks for the comment. The strongest recorded wind since the install (pulled from my weather station) was 49MPH. I am considering moving it to a less wind exposed area of the property or I have been playing with the idea of adding a linear damper to the east west axis to dampen the oscillation under wind load.

Strongest wind was last month - probably close to 70 mph straight line gusts. It held up, but will say it must have caused some stress fracture with the cheap bolts

Your system shows "looseness", take all slop out of linkages, just like your front wheel, it should not click or clunk when tested. You could pretension the long axis, use a cable top to bottom thru center post, it will look like a 'V'. Use a turn buckle to remove slack, if that still leaves slop in the wind, you can do the other halfooks like an A that will be a bit harder. The bottom of the V is where you wrap cable on a drum, use anything you want to dampen the drum movement. Side to side play can be reduced with shims / washers a dab of bearing grease. No sypport cable can be loose Just thought I cast a few thoughts to help

You might want to add a couple of damping cylinders such as use on a car to keep the rear hatch open on it. With there design it may dampen that oscillation caused by the wind.

Maybe try running some automotive shock absorbers to each side to dampen the oscillations
@aloneinanearthship4010
@aloneinanearthship4010 Жыл бұрын
I think automotive shock absorbers would be way to stiff, I think I need something that is adjustable and I don't think I need to go to both sides. I'm still looking around for a longer damper but now that it's out of most of the wind it's less of an issue.

Right now I have a small solar set up, I'm still on the grid. Ive just been messing around with trying to get familiar with everything We are already having up to 110 heat index, I was wonder about how many panels you would possibly need to run a small ac 5000 btu and or fridge. Thanks

I'm looking into a solar tracker. I have 82 static panels and looking to add 7-8 more on a tracker. However, my static rig should last 20 years or more with miminal maintenance. I can't see this rocking tracker lasting more than 3-5 years - with its sensors and actuators and pivot points and an exposed plastic controller box - before something breaks. If it costs a few hundred dollars and/or several hours of maintenance every couple of years to support it, it will never pay for itself in terms of the efficiency improvement it provides unless you are off grid and the other option is more batteries. Even there, lithium ion batteries are going to be longer lasting and more reliable. So maybe put that money into a few extra solar panels and extra storage, and skip the active tracking. Passive tracking (an adjustable seasonal tilt mechanism) is another option that would gain you some of the benefit of this unit with minimal cost and zero maintenance. There's nothing stupider looking than a tracking system that is broken and pointing the wrong direction. I have seen that a lot, and its much worse than no tracker at all.

North South Light Sensor Errors. My Eco-worthy solar tracker is the same as that in the video (does not have new controller). Using the remote controller arrows without pushing SET or RESET buttons, the operator can see the North and South Sensor Voltage readings and the Wind Speed Sensor Voltage reading (I did not know that for years). My North and South Light sensor values are practically 0.00V with some momentary flickering between 0.01V and 0.02V and this enough to cause the panels to be tilted towards the south so it appears it is working but is not working. I did not notice this and I wonder if anyone else's controller is doing the same thing?

@@aloneinanearthship4010 Suppose I have set up my controller and QUIT the setup. My display shows SL E:1.47 W:1.51 (this represents a new line character not found on the display) Turning Sunny 007s; We find: the SL mode (Sun Light), the voltage of East sensor (1.47V), the voltage of the West (1.51V), the mode again, "Turning Sunny", and the timer value (7 seconds (often prefixed by "TX" I assume)) before the next update. Now I press the East key and the controller displays SH S:2.25 N:0.00 S TX:008; the Shining mode? ("SH"), the voltage of the South sensor (2.25V), the voltage of the North sensor (0.00V), an "S" (unknown) and TX:009 (probably the timer again, as noted above). Now I press the East Button again: SH F:0.00 V:11.9 S TX:003; the Sunshining mode ("SH"), the wind speed sensor voltage (0.00V) and the system power supply voltage (11.9V), an "S" for sun shining (different for debugging purposes) and 3 seconds as indicated by the "TX" timer. If I press the East button again it returns to the first screen. So Yes, I have a 0.00V on my North sensor problem. Notice: I was able to see much more than when I believed I could only see one screen of display. I did so by pressing the East movement (or West movement) button in the normal operating mode!
