@@Jasonoid Yep. I was looking for LFP with an app and ideally >500wH. Size and weight is a major concern for my use case, as is passthrough capability. The Delta 2 was too big and heavy for me. I was overwhelmed by the dizzing array of models. Your channel was instrumental in giving me confidence to press the buy button and benefit from the Prime Day sale. The sale officially starts tomorrow, but it seems the price was already available. Confusing.

Yeah, most Hams will use a 12v standalone battery for the cleanest output.

Interesting new offering from EcoFlow. I would personally like to see a more weatherproof “Delta 2 Mini” with LiFePO4 for camping, tailgating, etc. Love my Delta 2s but something slightly smaller, beefier/more durable, and more weatherproof would be awesome. Another great review Jason! Cheers!

Great Review! I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into to this review and video! Thanks for showing all the pros and cons, functions and the grading sheet. I have been waiting for this one to be released! Ordered! This Ecoflow will fit the bill and I am excited to get it! I have been awaiting the 800W inverter because it will run a 3 quart InstantPot (without having to go into a boost mode) and many of my other camp kitchen appliances. I love how the app works and their customer service. I also love the weight and form factor. FYI, When I ordered, they have a promo statement that it comes with a backpack if ordered between today and April 9. I am not sure if the backpack will fit the unit, but either way it looks cool. They are both great, I'd say the Delta 2 is a little more future proof with the larger inverter and expansion battery. Costs a little more though

@@litnoregrets7551 the "reviewers package" is always different than the actual product. It probably doesn't come with the solar charging cable but you can find them online for cheaper since it uses XT60.

I live on Maui, we can't get these things shipped here. So I called EcoFlow and they let me know about a dealer on O'ahu called Battery Bob. They were expecting this model soon so I left my information and waited. Today I got the call, paid and they will ship it to my island on the interisland barge. Watching the current KZfaq reviews it wasn't too difficult to figure out that this model will serve my needs well.

Awesome content, video production, and information. I have a Bluetti EBA 3 with a 120 solar panel as my first move into this game. Live in a condo and just wanted a small unit to charge phone and radios if need be, with low cost commitment. That being said, looking for my next step to get something a little bit larger, and this new EcoFlow seems perfect. It basically has all the features that Bluettis newer EBA 3 has, but obviously larger. That EBA70 certainly does seem to be lacking now. I think I'll get the River 2 Pro this black friday for my small house back up and use the even smaller bluetti for camping or keeping in my car. Thanks again!

It does have EPS mode, but that's not super useful with a cutover time of 30ms. Not intended for use with computers.

Jason as always love your videos. I love the new river 2. Might be a while before I buy another ecoflow product as I have 2 ecoflow max and the river flow pro with the extension battery I got free. Ecoflow to me has the best customer service. I use a dometic fridge/freezer when I go camping and the river pro with the extension battery with it. The best part is that I also use the river pro to charge my dinosaur Jackery 500 that I use for my Bi-pap machine. These two items power everything I need for camping to include all my 12v lights and 12v fans. Using the solar panels which are two for a total of 320 watts, even on a cloudy day it is able to partially charge the river pro and extension to maintain enough power for a few days. Again great video. Buy the time I use up my jackery 500's which are two and my inergy Kodiak it will be a while. By the way the river pro also charges my Kodiak when I take it instead of the jackery. Ecoflow makes a phenomenal product.

If you look for a 'padded / insulated lunch bag or box' , you might be able to find the perfect bag that fits this unit. It will act like a protective case. My father in law found one for his slightly smaller power station. It was a little smaller but I'm sure there are different sizes available on amazon.

Good review. Just for info. Most Amatuer Radio equipment runs on 12V DC, unless you have a larger base station with internal PSU. So, the hum is not really a problem.

Eco flow are actually slow... The competition release power stations with Lithium phosphate batteries before Eco flow did.

@@Mike_219 Bluetti are releasing new products. The eb55 and eb70 were released back a long time ago and eco flow didn't have any lithium phosphate units at the time until recently. Some of the newer power stations aren't bad in terms of features. All powers has a new station with all the features that most people need

An excellent review on what appears to be a very good power storage station from an "established company" that has had a presence in the market for multiple years. I have always like EcoFlow's use of an XT60 charging port and the included built-in AC adapter for charging. Definitely a smart decision on EcoFllow's part with regards to using LiFePO4 cells in this power station.

@@Jasonoid Actually if you look close at the Ecoflow supplied cable connector it's a XT 60i with a third terminal that limits charging. I like my Ecoflow 220 panels because of the glass panels, they are heavier but they aren't floppy like all the other Ecoflow panels. The stand does suck.

The Xt60 connector used limited the DC-DC converter to 8A car charge setting (190W@24V). With a XT60i it should hit the 220w max charge input for that port by treating it like solar.

Great work as always. My interest in this question is what kinds of tech would you perceive or desire can come in the near future in portable solar charging units. As it seems with most tech as soon as you purchase something the new improved version comes out. EcoFlow seems to be one of the leaders and this unit looks very tempting to buy right now, if this one had not been so noisy and had cleaner out put would you have given it a 100% rating?

I wish I'd waited for this one! I'm sorely tempted anyway, although I think if I get another power station, it should be a bigger one, up in the 2kWH range. Going over your spreadsheet, looks like Bluetti may be the way to go; need to check charging input voltage (want to be able to use single panels or parallel, as I have other power stations that are limited to 30V).

@@Jasonoid It must be one hell of a turnaround in their customer service behaviour considering on the 23.02.2023 Bluetti knowingly and deliberately lied to PayPal on the 9th day of my PayPal dispute claiming they had shipped my power station to prevent me getting my €1900 back for an AC200 Max which they had failed and refused to ship to me for 3 months after I paid them. PayPal ruled in my favour after the indisputable evidence was presented to them. Bluetti make a lot of claims re improving their customer service but actions speak louder than words and these are their actions.

Hey, I found your channel from your most recent 200W panel test video. It was very detailed with pertinent information and succinct. I'm already sold on the River 2 Pro and just researching solar power options but I saw this video and thought I would check it out. I noticed on the video you gave the power station a 9.5 but on your grading sheet you have it listed at 6.5. Did I miss something? Did you later downgrade for some reason? Anyway, it looks like you're putting out some good information and helping folks make informed buying decisions. Thanks.

Great question! I just put out my new Power Station 2.0 Grading system. I raised the bar a bit on the new system vs the old since many of my viewers have been wanting more tests and new standards. Since the bar is higher now, all the previously scored models have been 'downgraded' a little if they didn't meet the new requirements. This model is still one of my favorite camping models and I use it all the time for powering my 12v fridges.

@6:31 ... display itself is consuming a lot of energy. Short display timeout can save significant amount over long time. Display can be turned off manually, but short timeout is better as display automatically illuminate itself when there is some change detected (like usb start / stop pulling power, etc.)

Do you have an opinion on the Montez X1000? The pro for me was the shock/water resistance for camping in a teardrop and it seemed to have some more DC options. But this looks very good. Thanks.

The Montek is a great power station. I reviewed the NCM version awhile ago on the channel. I'd say that one is in a different category since it's about $400 more money. 1000w inverter, 300 watts from solar. Great and thorough review as always. This would have been a hands down winner, except that you reviewed the new Pecron E600LFP first, which has the 1200 watt inverter that can run a home refrigerator and has 400 watts of solar input and it's intro price was $399! (now $499☹). While the River 2 is definitely a great power station, I'm surprised that EcoFlow chose to abandon the philosophy of the Delta 2 (arguably the best power station in it's class) and go with the age old inverter size about the same as the battery size. Even at $499, I still think the Pecron has better features and performance when compared to the River 2 Pro and the EB70S.

I think with coupon codes you can still get the Pecron E600 around $300 so still a great price for a budget model! The E600 does offer some advantages with 400 watts of solar and a larger inverter but it all depends on what someone is looking for in a power station. I did have quite a few complaints from viewers about their E600 units having issues. Maybe a reliability issue there? If you want a solid warranty and customer service EcoFlow provides a better guarantee than Pecron. The River 2 pro also has more premium features like fast AC charging (no bulky power bricks), smart app, and bidirectional USBc. I'm glad there are multiple options available so anyone can purchase what they want... plus competition only brings better performance int the future.

@@Jasonoid May be EcoFlow provides a better guarantee however customer service is the worst even though you state its excellent . Problem is when you get these items to test for free you are already biased . Try doing a video in contacting ecoflow customer service . Now that would make a great video. Anyways would suggest to people spending their hard earned cash to try calling their customer service number before buying and see if they even answer the phone.

I've actually dealt with Ecoflow customer support 3 times outside of my KZfaq account by reaching out in the app or over the phone. I had one unit break (River Pro), it was replaced in 2 weeks without question. The other two times it was about certain issues that were fixed with firmware updated. Never mentioned who I was or my KZfaq account.

The Bluetti AC60 is interesting... Really small internal battery, 600w inverter, 165 watts of solar with expansion batteries. It's basically an EB3A that's takes 2 extra batteries. I think they should have made the inverter bigger on the AC60.

Great review . 1 question you showed the pass through charge while using ac power . Does it support pass through charging while charging via dc. Eg charging the unit via dc in a car and a camp fridge pluged into the unit at same time

It does have the Ecoflow 'EPS mode' , it's a 30 second swap over UPS mode so it's a bit slow for using with computers and such.

Updated the scoring system with new standards. I raised the bar a bit since most power stations were getting full scores. All power stations had the same grade basically so something had to change. Sorry for the confusion. It's still an excellent model, just missed a few of the new requirements.

Again a very nice review. I just tested the boost function . The weird thing is it never delivers more than 800 watts.( Forget 1600 ) It just drops the voltage till the device thats rated at a much higher wattage works. Pretty clever. My 1300 Watt nespresso machine works fine with the river 2 pro . In Europe we have 230V . With X-Boost on the voltage drops to 192V and the device works fine ! What I don't like is that my fan is running with zero load on the ac. Its also running while charging on solar power. Is this normal? thnx again

very nice dc efficiency and good price for a medium sized power station. didn't see you test this on your ac fridge like usual, but you mentioned it would power a fridge at the end, did it work for your full size fridge you usually test your larger power stations on? or is this only for the small dc fridges?

Sorry for the confusion. Camping 12v fridge will work great, not full size fridge. This won't start the compressor on either of my full size fridges. That requires over 1500 watts startup wattage. No small power station I have tested will pass that test so far.

The Xboost feature only works for 'resistive' loads like a non-smart electric heater. I do not recommend using it on anything that has a built in circuit board or an electric motor. The low voltage can damage those devices.

I use the idea of ice cube trays to save energy for my fridge... I have a larger container I make freeze in the freezer to me an ice block ..unplug the fridge and put that block in the "non freezer" part of the fridge ... So it keeps things cool for about 12hrs but I'd like a station like this for when I need to plug back in the fridge to make another ice block overnight Cause then I could use solar to charge it up and further cut down my electric bill

I wish I could go back and update older videos, I'm sorry for the confusion. Six months ago I updated my scoring system to have stricter requirements as the technology has gotten better on these models. It's now the Grading System 2.0, so all the scores have been adjusted. Raising the bar pretty much lowered all the scores on all the models. I did this change because all power stations were getting perfect scores and what benefit does a grading system have if everyone gets an A?

I briefly tested it but not enough to film it. I'm still finding what that feature is truly useful for. Since it only works with 100% resistive loads it will only power an electric heater or similar device. It works by dropping the voltage so most appliances and devices won't work that mode enabled.

You can calculate the runtime of that for any power station. You do that by taking the total capacity of the power station in watt hours, then dividing it by the wattage of the light, and it will give you the runtime of the light in hours. For example: 768 watt hours / 229 watts = 3.3 hours of runtime. Now you also have to factor in losses from the inverter so I'd say somewhere around 2.75 hours of runtime. If you need a longer runtime go with a larger power station like the new EcoFlow Delta 2 (1024wh vs the 768wh).

The older Delta has Lithium ion batteries so they won't last quite as long and the new LFP batteries in the River 2 pro. Depends on your use case. The Delta has a larger AC inverter and more solar input, the River 2 Pro is more compact and smaller.

I think Ecoflow went to non expandable battery for consumer level (River) product lineup and left it only for professional high power / off grid model lineup (Delta). you really cannot off grid with River series, it's like portable/camping powerbank, not a solar generator which needs to power up whole home for days

The higher quality brands can have solar plugged in all the time and they won't discharge or have any beeps. My Bluetti AC500 has solar connected 100% of the time and it works flawlessly. My Oukitel P2001 requires me to unplug solar at dusk and plug it in back when the sun is shining fully again.

Threw the solar panel on top of my shed. Leave it plugged in all the time ... have power available in the shed all of the time without babysitting it. Have a webcam plugged in all of the time. Even runs vacuum cleaner with x-boost on.

Yes, it's the bifacial panel in the video. The 'kickstand' is the storage case and in my opinion it's pure garbage to use and setup...it's best to avoid using it the included stand.

@5:18 Unit Timeout is ignored when you enable "Car" output ... AC Timeout and Unit timeout (for USB) is working fine. When there is AC load in range 0 - 2 W, then it start timeout and once expired it shutdown AC output. If there are no other outputs enabled + no load on USB, then Unit Timeout kick in. Once it expire, then whole unit is powered off. That mean that You can for example set Unit Timeout to 30 minutes and once connected phone is fully charged it will automatically power itself down (assuming that phone will stop pulling power once fully charged) ... but that is not case for Car output. When Car output is enabled then Unit Timeout is temporary set to "Never". That mean that even if there is nothing plugged in, it will keep operating and providing power ... I think it is due to "fridge test" and it is vendor way to ensure that it will always pass. I personally thing that this was bad decision. I am using Car output for things that may benefit from working Timeout, but it is always set to Never.

@@Jasonoid ... DC standby usage is impressive on EcoFlow, but it is still producing heat and eventually drain battery. That's why most battery operated devices have some kind of timeout. It is to preserve charge when device is accidentally left on ... for me it is strange that there are 3 different timeout configuration, almost all configuration options have pop-up help display, yet there is no mention anywhere that DC output will inhibit timeout.

Jason, impressed with this unit but I really think for just about $100 more (currently about $700 total) I would opt for 2 Pecron E600 LFP 614Wh power supplies. For 1000Wh units I think it comes in among the best currently available. What I really like in an inexpensive home emergency backup situation is that I can be solar charging one unit while the other is running in the house. With the 1200w AC rating it can power my 1050w coffee maker with no issues. Not having an app is a non issue as well. Powering a 12w fridge with 2 of the Pecrons, switching as necessary, makes much more sense to me that rigging another battery for these mid size units. So what am I missing?

You'd get more battery capacity that way. The only things to think about would the quality of the device, the warranty length and customer support. The Pecron is a great budget device and I've had pretty good feedback about them. I've also had comments left saying they had issues so there is a slight risk involved (you get that with any budget device I suppose).

Registering their (Pecron E600) products doubles the warranty to 2 years. If I was spending $1,000+ I would be more concerned. At $350 it is worth the chance. The unit arrived at 60+%. Topped it off with the brick. Tested wireless phone charging, all good. Will run our 1050w Nespresso tomorrow.

I heard the car charger cable limits power to 8 amps but the solar cable allows 13 amps. Could you try to plug the solar cable into your 12v external battery and see if you get the increase in charging speed?

The voltage input is what controls the charging speed. Low voltage like 12-17 volts will be limited. Anything higher it treats as solar input.

@@Jasonoid When you presented the grading, at the 20:10 mark of the video, you claimed it lost a half point because of the noise on the AC inverter. At the 22:22 mark, you mentioned the noisy inverter being a con and you said no sensitive electronics. EcoFlow should have put a filter in there so there is no interference or noise on the AC inverter.

To unlock max power input from DC 12V, just switch to "charging from solar panel" mode in the settings on a phone. It just thinks that it's charging from a car socket and limits input to 8A. You'll get 13A input and near 150-160W. But don't do it if you're changing from a car.

The only way to get more than 8 amps input at 12v is to use Ecoflows high power solar cable with the orange XT60i adapter. It will allow the full amperage and get near those numbers. Unfortunately there's no setting in the smart app to get more than 8 amps off car charging. Gotta use the high power solar cable.

Lifepo4 is a safe battery chemistry and doesn't catch on fire like NCM batteries. If you have all the proper safeties in place (wire gauge, proper fuses, and charge controller settings) it should be fine to leave unattended while charging.

Great inverter and battery specs for such a small unit, but why oh why is the solar limited to 220w??? The solar max input of 50V and 13A would allow for two 250w 20Vmax panels in series for 500w, which could keep up with that inverter capacity much better. I guess they’re rate limiting the total power for heat dissipation or something, but that means you won’t be able to use this *solar* generator at anywhere near its capacity for long periods off grid without draining the battery.

You're probably right about the heat dissipation or long term durability. Running for long periods of time really depends on the load. For a small DC load of a 12v fridge and LED lights, maybe a small DC fan 220w will definitely keep up just fine. I did that on my EB70 for awhile and it only gets around 160 watts input via solar.

@@Jasonoid Yeah, but then you could do that with an even smaller unit. Also on a cloudy day that 220w panel will probably give you 20-25w at best. Having 500w of panels would still provide 50-60w on a cloudy day and that might keep up with critical loads like the fridge. I guess you could overpanel this unit, but panels aren’t cheap and it would feel like a waste on sunny days. Still looking for that fabled unicorn solar generator 😆

Hi there. Are you 100% sure the DC 12v output (car port) is regulated? I ask because an Ecoflow agent answered this question online stating that it is NOT regulated. Yep, 100% sure. The battery is a 24v LFP battery, if it wasn't regulated it would be putting out 24v.

@@stumpy075 the battery voltage depends on the model. Usually larger models use 48v batteries and smaller models have 24v to 30v batteries inside. I have a full review of the Anker 555 on my channel, you'll have to dig back a little bit to find it. Both a decent models.

Meh, xboost isn't useful. You can basically run a heater (resistive load) above the wattage limit on the inverter. It works by dropping down the inverter voltage from 120v down to 100v or less. Most electronics will not run at these low voltages so the feature is very limited.

@@undefeatedgaul3201 your fridge will pull around 15 to 18 watts on average at those temps. To calculate runtime, take the usable watt hour capacity from the DC output and divide it by the watts, you'll get hours of runtime: River 2 Pro = 683wh / 18 watts = 37 hours without charging

@@Jasonoid The main big name alternative is the Bluetti eb70.. In the UK it can be bought for £619 Vs £749 of the river 2 pro. I'd rather have a bigger inverter or battery capacity than Bluetooth which drains power and is an extra cost. Personally I would prefer a folding handle rather than a handle on the side. One edge of the unit hits the surface first.

The EB70 may offer more value due to the lower price, but it isn't 'better' in terms of features. The EB70 doesn't have smart app connectivity, it doesn't have fast charging, and it doesn't have a bidirectional USBc port. The River 2 pro also has a 5 yr warranty. All these features lead to the higher price on the River 2 pro. So yes, the EB70 is cheaper since the price is lower, but most people would say it's not better since it lacks things that the EcoFlow has. The best thing about having different options available means that someone can purchase the option that works best for them 🙂

Maaaan that fan. And I only knock it because otherwise the devices are pretty good. I think think they should have given like 300 watts of solar input or maybe even four. To call it the pro and have the same solar input as the max just feels off since the base level has half the input of the max. I found the first round of Rivers appealing because they all were SUPER capable devices with just varying capacity so the barrier of entry was low.

I'd love if the solar was larger, 350 to 400 would be AWESOME!... but at least it hits the 220 watts like advertised! Haha
