A 10 weeks timelapse of the full van building process. More video will come to explain every steps of the process.
I will show you how I made a full ecological insulation using cork and hemp, how I'm electrically independent with solar panels and how I build an infinity shower using 7L of water.

@@NikolasPulka I know the subject of insulation is a hot topic so I commend you on your choice of materials. My worry with these is that they regulate humidity, as in they take it in as well. Do you have any concerns with this rusting away the metal of your van walls since it can not breath on that side or is the spray cork a vapor barrier?
@NikolasPulka
@NikolasPulka 3 жыл бұрын
@@ab-ym3bf Hey. Yes actually spray cork is kinda a vapor barrier because of its water proof ability. This is why both are a great combo. But also hemp panel regulate humidity, but dry super fast vs other eco-insulation like wools, so it lowering the impact of humidity already. And to be extra safe I prepared my metal with two layer of anti-moisture paint :)

Hey thank you so much for your comment. Wow if you are a carpenter and electrician you probably gonna come out with an amazing van ! That's exciting. Also boat life must be really interesting too, I'm thinking maybe next year to sell the van and get a boat, sounds to be a fun project too :p

@@NikolasPulka Hahah well i certainly hope so! I've certainly had a ton of practice it would be nice to finally build something for myself! Boat life is really cool too. I think it's a very similar sort of vibe to van life in terms of who enjoys it. It's nice to have bigger water and fuel tanks for longer trips but you trade that for considerably more operation/maintenance costs which can be a drag. Ulitmately if you're enjoying van life i'm pretty sure you'll enjoy the boating life. If you ever decide to look into getting one I've got tons of experience buying boats. Been living aboard for the last 20 years

Beautiful, warm and cosy build, clever setup to have the shower on one end and keep the electricity easily accessible. The seating area seems to be arranged such that getting in and out is easy with the cut corners and the pullout table. I appreciate that you have made the van as sustainable as possible and still made it look clean and modern. I do not see a fixed cooktop, and was wondering how you cook in there? During building, did you get an idea of the relative cost of building sustainably? Did it feel much cheaper or more expensive than other options? Were there moments where you had to trade-off between sustainable and feasible?
@NikolasPulka
@NikolasPulka 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Eva. What a great comment, I really appreciate it, thank you for that. You got it right with the cut corners, even if it can bit still tricky if we are 4 peoples eating around the table :) I don't have any fixed cooktop because it's a way for me to avoid the camping car homologation. I have a movable 3 burners stove working with gaz, that I put on top of my counter, if it was non movable I have to legally (in France) became a camping car, with a movable one I can still be a van. For the cost it's depends, exemple the insulation is more expensive because I use ecologial materials, but it cost me in total 500e for the all insulation, so it's not insane. I saved lot of money on many things because I bought a lot second hand, that is more sustainable than buying new stuff all the time and cheaper, exemple I bought the tap for the sink for only 25 euros, new it costs 110 euro, so I saved money and it's eco-friendly, but you need to spend lot of time on internet searching for the good deals. I used also lot of second hand woods, but you need to spend lot of time sanding the pieces to make it beautiful again, in general this second hand approche is cheaper and more eco-friendly but it take more time. The biggest expense in the van is the solar panel system, that cost me around 2400 euro, and you can't do much second hands on this, my convertor is second, but all the rest is new,. Hope I answered your questions. If you have other questions you can contact me here or on Instagram, and I also have my website where I'm writing more blog post. Take care !

Great build. How is hemp better than wool tho? Doesn't wool have quality's that help it to keep from molding?
@NikolasPulka
@NikolasPulka 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Kellie. Thank you for your comment. I spent some time talking with the boss of the insulation store I went to, and for a van the guy told it's better to use hemp because wool take a really long time to dry, so if because of the rain or something else some water get into your insulation or just because of the humidity in the van the wool start to get wet it will actually take a really long time to the wool to dry, when hemp dry super quickly. Also wet wool can develop some strong smell, when hemp doesn't. Wool is a really great option for insulation for house, but because of this difference for a van I prefer to use hemp :) Hope this is helping you, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions. Take. care

How does the weight of the wood affect fuel consumption, Any Idea?
@NikolasPulka
@NikolasPulka 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, it's hard to talk about the weight of the wood specifically, but the weight of everything inside does have an effect, empty I use 9l/100km to drive, now I'm more often around 10l/100km on flat land and I definitely feel it when I go up hill the consumption can go to 16l/100km up to 22l/100km on very steep hill. Luckily I'm not in the alps so it doesn’t happen a lot. Hope I answered you question. wish you a great day

It is hard to estimate accurately , I want to make a video where I'm passing through the expenses, I kept the receipts, but didn't calculate yet, but If I have to guess I think I'm under 10k, but don't take it go granted, I don't know exactly yet (video is coming)

I don't in what country you are living, it may have different brand there.

Super ce van !! J'adore .
@NikolasPulka
@NikolasPulka 3 жыл бұрын
Bonjour bonjour !
