Damn, Dr Naiz is quite extra ordinary person, with his knowledge and observations. It is quite strange that we have someone like his roaming around in Pakistan. We should get an opinion from an expert on a matter with in sufficient time. God, what we are told on the tele, emotion and shouting from one journalist.

Brilliant analysis by Dr. Niaz. Where have you been hiding? I can bet that if I travel on a time machine back to various phases of our political history in this very instance, I would be able to experience an exact replica of what he has elaborated in his opening statement. Bravo, sir!

This was the first time I've heard Dr. Niaz and I find his analysis relating to the causes of economic decline quite reasonable and the solutions he described are also logical. Of late, detailed reading from multiple publications from the left and right spectrum of thought have convinced me that overall market liberalization is a good thing, excluding a few key industries. However, market liberalization can be disastrous when it goes unchecked or poorly regulated. Quoting Farooq Tirmizi from the Profit Magazine; " The biggest difference between being pro-free markets - which this publication is - and being pro-business - which is a seemingly similar, but completely separate way of thinking - is that being in favour of free markets means opposing rent-seeking behaviour, even and especially from large and successful businesses. In this week’s issue, we explore two cases of rent-seeking behaviour. ... Capitalism is the best system for creating economic prosperity known to human beings, but it requires vigilance to ensure a fair market for all."

Economics is fully related to society and social parameters first. Then come others. To develop improve the roots rather than trimming branches.

Very nice discussion. And kudos to Dr Ilhan for clarifying the history and institutions in the country. Historical understanding is important to put things in perspective and not get trapped in pitfalls. Hope concerned people listen, as this country ails from institutional decay.

Lot of suspect and weak analysis from someone who obviously is extremely intelligent, and knowledge. Many of his statements inferred that Pakistan is a special case regarding different points, but those issues are inherent to most, if not all developing nations.
