Something I've been thinking of in terms of the economy is that in Skyrim you can learn an alteration spell called Transmute Mineral Ore, that transmutes iron ore into silver and silver into gold. So we know this magic exists. Yet it doesn't seem to be used to aid the economic power of any of the major players in Tamriel. Or anyone except the player character in Skyrim. Could this spell be some rare form of alteration magic, now lost to the ages that no one knows about? You'd think that with the power to transmute iron into silver and gold, people would be hiring adept alteration mages all over to gain wealth. The spell tome is not for sale anywhere in the game, and can only be found in an old tomb and in a bandit camp (the bandits probably had no idea what knowledge that book held). From a lore-design perspective such a spell can entirely flip the economic system if it was common knowledge. So is it a lost art, or perhaps the findings of one talented alteration mage who never shared his discovery with the world? It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this, and maybe what kind of impact the Transmute spell would have on the economy if it was put to practice on a large scale by one of the large factions.
@ImperialKnowledge
@ImperialKnowledge 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, transmute is a problem. But I suspect it would be illigal and a very hard spell to use. If it were done on mass scalr it would be a big problem though
@LethargicGM
@LethargicGM 5 жыл бұрын
I've thought about that to, if that spell was used on a large scale it would cause hell to the gold based economy of the empire. Because the more gold and silver there is the less valuable it is. As for the bandit camp you fined the spell in, I believe the chief was onto the secrets of the spell. Because in the area you find the spell there is a few chunks of iron ore and one chunk of silver ore.

FulgrimClone #8675309 Good catch! Yeah, he might’ve been on to trying to figure it out. I believe it is listed as an adept level spell, so it’s not too difficult to use hypothetically. If it was a known spell then it would be illegal for sure. But I don’t think it is a known spell, because it makes gold and silver drop in value based on the amount of iron you could obtain. So at risk of devaluing the currency you’d think they would just switch to a mineral or material you cannot simply make more of by transmuting iron ore. If it was a known spell though, how might it be used in war time to effect the economy? And could the Dominion have used it to pay the Empire after signing the concordat?

@JeFilm94

@@AlshainFR But would transmuted material be any less valuable than untampered gold or silver? Would there be any characteristics that would have an affect on wether they could be used interchangeably? What is to stop someone from mass transmuting materials illegally? Or for perhaps a province to do it on a major scale should they be faced with an international crisis?

There are Banks in Tamriel, though they don't really work like real life ones. We actually have an example of one in Markarth. The silver blood family Treasury kinda operates like a bank in many ways as they give loans and such from there.

The Abbecean sea is so much more important than basically anywhere else regarding trade shipping. The onlyother area that gets flooded with routes is Black Marsh. As for the Argonians' relationship with the Empire vs the Dominion, they don't trust the elves, but they have an actual distaste for the Empire. They don't want to ally with either, but if push comes to shove the Dominion would be their preferred choice, as they haven't wronged the argonians before, whereas the argonians see the Empire as invaders and tyrants.

Morrowwind is independant if you ask me, as in TES 5 Skyrim if your on Solsthiem and speaking to the chancellor or vice chancellor they talk about the great houses of Morrowwind governing and not the empire. Plus if Morrowwind were part of the empire then when the Argonians were invading the empire would have had to help and not leave the defence of Morrowwind up to house Redoran. Because if Morrowind was an imperial Province and Blackmarsh attacked them that would mean war between the empire and Blackmarsh, not just Morrowind and Blackmarsh like they describe it in TES 5.

I think you're wrong about the green trade routes since the Aldmeri Dominion and Hammerfell never brokered a peace agreement. It's even stated in the game that they're still at war with one another. The Redguards are extremely capable warriors, especially in their own lands. Which is why the Dominion couldn't bring enough forces to conquer to Cyrodil

One very odd thing stands out: the red line makes a very deliberate route via the Inner Sea and seams to make port at , what used to be, Vivec City (actually faring through Scathing Bay) but leaves Ebonheart alone. The land around the impact site is still uninhabitable, right? Are they visiting to trade/scavenge magical relics?

Branching off into the ''economy'' part of the vid, do you think there's a possibility for a video on what resources, products, etc. certain provinces would import/export? Like, Morrowind has a bunch of Ebony, so certainly they'd be exporting that, probably to the Empire who desires to make their army strong. Cyrodiil would probably export food, due to its rich farmland. Etc.

Invest in Alchemy, it is a highly profitable skill. Which also opens up the path to better enchanting and smithing so more wealth to be had there if you choose to combine it all. Also choosing an Imperial would be fitting, considering they're more charismatic than the usual races. And they find more wealth when dungeon diving.

When you can I suggest you get together with fellow lore buffs, people like lady nerevar and to work with some brilliant modders and create an immersive and lore rich game overhaul mod once the elderscrolls 6 is released. I think the fans who are dedicated modders and lore buffs will make the game into a true elderscrolls game because bethesda is out of touch. Ive been playing a modded skyrim play through and it feels more like it is than without any mods. If I had the resources id create a game thats inspired from The elder scrolls and some of the best open world RPGs. I must thank you for being so dedicated because I wish to discover every aspect of what could be placed in my own creation and it gives me inspiration for modding with passion.

It probably wouldn't work that great. With a full-blown war with the Empire, their trade lanes are probably going to get raided constantly, and with Skyrim fresh from Civil war, the goods exported from Skyrim would cost an unreasonable amount of coin, especially because they also have to rebuild their land, deal with Legion stragglers and finish off the Forsworn, all endevours that cost a lot of coin.

I like most of your videos, this one a bit less. I think the trade routs map is not that accuret and simply a bit too one sided. 2) i think the septim is more of a weight in gold, similar to the norse/viking silver use. Simply because that way, 1 Dominian eagle and one septim, one what ever from which ever province... Is worth more or less the same because of its weight and not an exchange rate they can't keep track of, or agree on.

Among other things. The biggest problem is the local support for the Legion, the Forsworn in the Reach, and Skyrim's dire state of economy following the Civil War. With no trade partners, getting deals will be difficult, as the Stormcloaks would probably ask prices that are totally unreasonable when compared to the other provinces of Tamriel.
@Auriel_Direnni

Skyrim is going to be in real trouble no matter who wins the civil war, both sides are bad for Skyrim. Which is nothing new, having a game set in your province of Tamriel ha been terrible for you in all TES games except Daggerfall. In Daggerfall the warp in the west led to a peace in High Rock. But in Morrowind, they get the red year and the Argonian invasion. In Oblivion, Cyrodiil loses power, most of the provinces become independent, and they get punched by the Thalmor. I fully expect TES6 to tell us that since TES5, things have gone really badly in Skyrim.

Imperial Knowledge Idk if u concider eso cannon enough to get a broader sense of eco omics or trade but I was digging around in malabal tor and greenshade and found out that treeminders and treethanes are the ones who oversee settlement trade and money , I also know that altmer settlements have envoys from auridon that come in and the high elven "kinladys" act as a sort of chancelors of trade between the bosmer settlements and their respective treethanes, Its like if in skyrim, appointed Thanes of a hold were in charge of domestic trade between other holds I'm not sure how it works with other provinces. But it seems like the different regions of valenwood has similar but different hierarchy of trade. Most of the merchants and traders I see in valenwood are nonelven and reside in altmer towns, complaining how hard it is to make money because bosmer would rather trade with meats and hides than with gold which they don't really use a lot or have in abundance of. Also, the altmer have been trying to install their own currency, a glass slate that is like identification of money earned. That's not going so well for them. In the towns like elden root and falenesti, speakers hired by spinners would patrol and inspect houses and camps of any non meat mandated materials. The higher your political and social status , the less lenient these things are. If you are found to have broken the pact, it is charged that your family must be responsible for your execution and .. ... Disposal... This is just what I've learned today running around talking to certain people
@Auriel_Direnni
@Auriel_Direnni 5 жыл бұрын
@Rick K People in Valenwood exclusively eat meat, as shown in the book series "a dance in fire" I believe it's called (it's good, give it a try, it's the source of basically 100% of bosmer lore), even foreigners eat basically only meat to avoid insulting the bosmer, though they tend to import foreign meat stuff.

@Auriel_Direnni 5 жыл бұрын
As for bosmer trade in general, they mostly barter. They use imperial coins, but they don't really understand their value. Bosmer from Valenwood are very easy to scam, they don't understand the value of things not made in Valenwood and tend to overestimate the value of wooden items, as well as completely misunderstand what they are for to begin with. Most bosmer live very tribally and don't have a real economy, they produce or exchange things they need, and they'e famously very lazy at doing that to begin with.
