Environmental Science: High School Learning:
Introduction to an Ecosystem:
A. What is an Eco-System:An environment around us.
Parts of Eco-System.
- Biotic
- Abiotic
Abiotic Factors (non-living):
- Climate
- Fire
- Rainfall
- Inorganic
- Organic
Biotic Factors (living):
-Animals
-Plants,etc
B. Types of Ecosystem
- Based on Nature (Natural/Man-made)
- Based on Duration (Temporary/Permanent)
- Based on Size (Small or Micro and Large or Macro)
C. Food Web: Energy transformation from one level to another.
D. Habitat: A place to live for both the living and non-living components.
E. Ecological Niche: The role a species serve in its ecosystem including what it eats, what eats it, and how it behaves.
Why two organisms cannot occupy the same niche?
-No two species can occupy the exact same niche in nature because then either one will die off due to competition for limited resources.
G. Structure of Ecosystem:
- Physical Structure (interaction of biotic and abiotic components)
- Species Composition (identification and enumeration of plants and animal species)
- Stratification (Vertical distribution of different species occupying different levels)
