Soldiers have been on the streets in several cities in Ecuador as the country reels from an unprecedented day of violence.
Masked gunmen stormed a public TV studio during a live broadcast in the city of Guayaquil and bombs were detonated across Ecuador on Tuesday.
More than 130 prison staff are being held hostage by inmates in five jails.
A 60-day state of emergency began on Monday after a notorious gangster vanished from his prison cell.

i recently learned that the mexican cartels have a lot of influence in American cities. Some drug prices are sort of regulated by the cartel. If they find out people or groups have been disregarding the price controls they could set out a hit. People in the area would respond to it. Apperrenlty some shootings that we hear about from big cities might have been bounty hit set up thousands of miles away. - And yet there is still some power that is allowing the cartels to even do that so what gives?

Ecuador has SIGNIFICANT oil reserves. It was my first thought when I saw this yesterday. It is EXACTLY how the US empire operates. The US isn’t in the business of conquest, it is in the business of making a place good for US business……by any means necessary. A destabilized government suddenly needs money and help. A favor will be in order. A new government will more easily bend. Either way, a US company get’s to drill.

I am totally amazed at the inaccuracy I am hearing on the news. I have lived in northern Ecuador for 12 years. I feel as safe today as I always have. I can walk the streets in my small tourist town day or night without worry, including today. The big cities can be a problem and Guayaquil has always been an out-of-control New York City. But in the north we see few problems. Ecuador's problem is being stuck between Colombia and the U.S. increasing need for drugs. The U.S. is out of control and our people, many children playing in the streets, are getting killed if they get between the cartels and our ports. Colombia has no Pacifc ports, so we are it and they are stuffing our produce with drugs for shipment. It is the U.S. causing our crime problem and the U.S. Ambassador and Antony Blinken have been here to discuss the problem, but how do you stop a whole drug addicted country. The unhappier the population of a country, the more drugs it will use. What you are showing might be in south Ecuador, but everything is normal as usual in North Ecuador and I live on the main intersection of my town and you would never know any of this is going on. President Noboa will take care of the problem.
