Back in the day, in film school, the director of Cedar Rapids, Miguel Arteta, visited to talk to our class, and he said that the tone of that movie could have been way different because of outside influence, because of who was in the cast and who was the lead in the film (Helms) and that it was basically a glorified independent movie (Fox Searchlight), but that he stuck to his guns and he basically was able to do a lot of what he wanted. I mostly asked him about The Good Girl since that was and probably still is, imo, the best performance I've seen from Jennifer Aniston.

Isn’t it so crazy?! You can’t know what all’s involved/ how you’ll react UNTIL you’re in it. And once you are, if you decide it’s not for you, you can’t just reverse the process. Even if you become less popular, you can’t ever be as anonymous as you were before. And if you DO try to strike a balance or be more private, you’re labeled as ungrateful & unapproachable. It’s a wonder so many celebs are eventually deemed “crazy”🤔
@QuantumBraced

@@retrospectors6595 Yeah. And there are levels, I mean Ed Helms is not super famous, Conan is more famous, then someone like Taylor Swift probably couldn't go to a baggage claim at all, she wouldn't survive. A really good point on being really famous or being wealthy. You can't do the things you used to do, so you loose that social aspect of your life. Some adjust some don't. I'm friends with a really wealthy man, and a celebrity. Whenever they come back into town, we can't just hang out on the town. It's always like 'Old School' where a vehicle picks you up and you have no idea on the situation. Guy driving - "I can't reveal our destination."

I love it when celebs talk about fame itself. It's really interesting to me because so few people know what it's like, and it's such a weird thing that I'm sure you'd have to actually have to experience. I'd never want to be like Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise famous, but I wouldn't being like Aaron Sorkin famous. People in the industry know and respect you, cinephiles might recognize you, but you're not having people like chase you down trying to get a photo or filming you on their phone at Starbucks.

I never cared for the Hangover movies, but I finally started watching the Office this year and love it. It's funny how you can get a total new appreciation for an actor, like Ed Helms here. I just knew him as that guy who was in those movies and then suddenly played Rusty Griswold in that not so great looking Vacation movie, but then I saw him killing it in the Office. Was the same for me with Will Arnett, he was in those Turtles movies I don't wanna watch (as a fan of the comic and the first movie from the 90's), and then came Arrested Development into my life - I can only say "I've made a huge mistake."

We have a weird unwritten rule in Ireland that most (not all) people tend to follow and that is no matter who you are, unless your the Pope.. you're no better or no worse than the rest of us and if you try to be.. we'll take you down a peg. It just means that celebs come here and walk around and people leave them alone. Not out of respect, just for the pure fact that we don't want them thinking they're anymore important than anyone else. It's been a humbling experience for many I think (including the Kardiashians who walked through a major central park in Dublin and nobody gave a feck). Granted, this isn't always the case and you'll always have some fans eager to say hi or whatever but for the most part... you'll be left alone and you should remember that the reason is because we all think you've a big enough head already.
