I love this song .. it’s basically telling us that we don’t need to try harder to fit in a world trying to define beauty.. Cause our flaws and imperfections makes us beautiful in a way that not many could understand and that no one could define but those who truly see our worth..

It's more than that, it illustrates brevity, strength and authenticity and this is what potentially makes some more beautiful than those who are visually pleasing but have entitlement issues based on their physical appearance rather than focusing on their character.

Ed, when this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and in jail. Now I have a good job, a husband, and I’m healthy. This song and “Clover Cage - Miraculous” are the two songs that helped with my depression. I just want everyone to know that things will get better. We are in this together. I love you ❤️

I kinda like the fact that even though they are out of place the entire video and none of this is their life or appeals to them, you never see any of the “beautiful people” mock them or judge them for not fitting in or doing their own thing. They all kinda do their own things and coexist too. This makes it less of a criticism of “beautiful people” and more of an acknowledgment that we all have different joys and values and wants in our lives and we should remain true to those things.

Interesting perspective. It looked to me like they were ignored by everyone surrounding them which to me was a commentary on how if you're not a 'beautiful person' you're not worthy of their attention

@@Lohnerable there are a couple scenes where you kinda see people notice them but they tend to return to what they were already doing. I never see an active irritation at the couple, I think it would’ve been more “tropey” to have people questioning their presence or actively blocking them from attending but throughout the entire video we see them living the life right alongside the beautiful people as active participants so that’s why I ended up with that interpretation. It could be wrong but honestly if it’s just another “rich people are shallow and phony” song made by people who are technically living the life being criticized it’s a bit less impactful to me. Still a good song.

The message in the clip is you know Ed and Khalid are background on the scene that means The system makes you famous. You're the lead in this clip.But if you make mistakes like us ( I mean, if you show how the system can make people famous and destroy them like us) The system puts you in the background like us and your reputation(fame) ends instantly. SO YOU MUST BE A SLAVE OF THE SYSTEM IF YOU WANT TO STAY FAMOUS. WE ARE NOT BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE = We also made this mistake. BUT OUR EYES ARE OPEN NOW. I felt like an absolute outsider while solo traveling in Greece in the summer of 2022 without my girlfriend - I had signed up for one of those “party” tour things didn’t really knowing what I was getting into, and I had never felt more alone in my life surrounded by people who were exactly like those surrounding the couple in this video. I couldn't, for the life of me, fit in with the tour group I was part of (who somehow all ended up being Australians, but they all signed up separately which was an amazing coincidence) and being the only Asian I stuck out like a sore thumb. This song kept playing in my head, the idea of being surrounded by “beautiful people” and feeling so alone and never being able to fit in. Just revisited this music video again after more than a year and I'm weeping now, perhaps from a mixture of those memories and just the fact that the message of this song is so simple yet beautiful. Thank you Ed Sheeran

damn 3:23 when they avoided the private luxury car and instead chose the transport bus.... It reminded me of my parents.. when they came to visit me.. I booked a private cab for them at the airport and told them that the driver will pick them up as i was busy with work schedule. And instead of coming by the cab they choose the public bus to travel around the city. Later on When i ask why they did it.. my dad simply said, " we were just looking around and enjoy, since our son was busy with work." yeah i know it was my fault... a big lesson learned :/

I love this video because I relate to the guy and his wife who are just plain, simple people living out a simple life. We seem to hold a different set of values from most people around us. Our idea of a good time is a bit more subdued and quiet. We don't feel the need to be seen, we don't take pictures of every meal we eat to post on Instagram. We simply quietly and conscientiously live out our lives, taking care to raise our children as best we can and maintain our carefully planned retirement. We aren't beautiful, but we're grateful to be alive and live in relative peace and comfort. Our lives are not hectic, we are not manic, jumping from whirlwind affair to dramatic breakup. We are slowly and steadily winning the race.
