So fabulous to hear Ed’s stories. Makes me recall so many more. I learned so so much from him - like the plants themselves, of which I feel speak through him. I am who I am today because of my time spent in the presence of this unique, adorable wise man, an herbal & life mentor extraordinaire. Thank you Rosemary (Rosie ❤️) for recording your conversation for the ages!! A true treasure!

WOW, what a treasure!!! I love meeting these herbal elders. I am new to this but listening to them I see how the herbs have been talking to me, jumping up and down trying to be noticed since the mid 70’s. I have owned Back to Eden since the late 70’s, it has no cover, it has traveled the country with me and I have used it as a reference here and there but FINALLY it will have a place of prominence as I grow my own herbs and try them and experience them. I am so very excited to finally meet the weeds. My new friends that will save my life.

I can attest to Ed's lecturing at the Hippocrates Health Institute in the 1970s because I caught a lecture of his there with one of those free raw food banquets. Soon after I joined the institute's staff for a time. Around then I also caught a series of lectures in NYC by Dr. Christopher. I still have those tapes somewhere. Great to hear these stories Ed!

I really enjoyed this! The story about the trip to find the holy man in the jungle was my favorite. I have been honored to work with Elders traditionally trained, not by some weekend workshop, but from birth and I am so grateful! Those most sacred medicines, I believe, are being so miss used! I've heard stories! And it breaks my heart. We are now living in the 'fast food world'! My Elders have taught me that when an herb is abused, it affects the energy and strength of all of the same plants world wide. It can degrade them. And in my tradition we have stories of how the medicines came to us. And how they could leave us if the abuse continues. We do not own the plants! They are our brothers and sisters, our mothers and fathers, our grandmothers and grandfathers. So you have to think, would you treat your family in a careless manner. That was a powerful story Ed shared. Wado

Trying to recall just when it was that Ed and Sarah brought their tinctures to the Ashland Community Food Store, sometime around 1981. And I was fortunate to have an iridology exam from Dr Christopher in San Francisco in the early 1970s, when he and Michael Tierra were making the rounds. At Fred Rohe's New Age Natural Food Store on 9th Avenue in the Sunset area of San Francisco in 1969 and 1970, we did sell bulk herbs in gallon jars, as well as bulk grains in barrels, and milled flours on our stone burr mills, brought to us by Frank Ford of Arrowhead Mills in Texas. I think that Bio-Botanica made a tincture of Siberian Ginseng (Eleuthero) in 1975, because I recall thinking how potent it must be. Love the Lobelia story, Ed. Just took some of the Kloss Lobelia Skunk Cabbage Compound or "Antispasmodic Tincture," now called Muscle Calmer by Herb Pharm. Very proud to have been there to offer your formulas at the Ashland food Coop, back-in-the day, when natural foods were-the-way that we were. Some of us still are that way, and the herbal products continue to be revealed from around the world. Cannabis was certainly there as one of the first herbs in our lives in the late 1960s, and ever since. Jeanne Rose's "Herbs and Things," and "Herbal Body Book" were on our shelves too. Ann Wigmore and Viktoras Kulvinskas were also our teachers. Bernard Jensen, Gypsy Boots, Paavo Airola, Adelle Davis, Michio Kushi... 'Tis so good to reminisce. Thanks Rosemary and Ed!
