In Bulgaria the snails are usually boiled, and their guts and shell are being removed, before consumation. Nobody eats the snails with the shell. And I've never heard anybody in Bulgaria to have been poisoned by eating snails, from mushrooms - yes, but from snails never. In Malta they are also considered for delicacy and are prepared simillarly like in Bulgaria.

i think it's an interesting mention that, if you don't boil/cook the sht out of snails, my understanding is that they CAN carry very nasty tiny parasites that do some of the gnarliest stuff to a body... like worms-proliferating-in-your-bloodstream and brain-eating type stuff; nightmare level infections. i always thought my snails would prob be black and shriveled before i felt safe enough eating them.

@@luceatlux7087yep. That’s the African snail. Here in South America was introduced and they are everywhere they by nature are very dirty and have tons of parasites, some of them lethal. It is not recommended to touch it, pets also should not bite them.

@@abeld94 Yeah that's nasty man. They're just a type of food I could not eat without cooking VERY thoroughly. Some moron douche downvoted my last comment a while back. Google it. Dangerous parasites can be found in "all snails and slugs" (although some species are specifically connected with vastly increased incidence of disease).
