Awesome overview! I totally forgot about the Tangram Vector. It was an interesting concept, but the scales were way too slippery for me. I kept dropping mine and eventually sold it. That might be the OG budget button lock.

Two Sun has so many great models, I want that big chunker of a Tanto Button lock. The TS175?? Maybe. Kizer has the action just down Pat 100% on everything they make. They use black magic for sure.

Thank you for bringing the Vector out of the graveyard, ha ha. That one was my first button-lock too and I would carry it more if it had a better pocket clip. I'd add the G-10 version of the Pyrite to the list because that is the one I like the most up to this day. Cheers!!!

I have several of these and the civivi Altus is my fav. Even though the blade goes dull pretty quickly. Fidget factor takes the cake though!

Nitro V is pretty low on edge retention. IDK why reviews are singing praises for it. See knifesteelnerds steels ranked article. Its a 3 out of 10 edge retention. For example S30V is 6, 154CM is 4.5 so...

I really like my beglieter XL, another budget button lock that you might like is the CJRB J1912. I don't carry it because it is thumb stud opening, and the nerve damage in my hand and arm makes that bad, but for $60 is has the value, and is a pretty nice design. it has the AR RPM9 steel ( not one of the best out there, but serviceable) I would prefer 154CM, but again, for the price, you can't bitch too much.

The WMK exclusive Begleiter button lock is one of my favorites along with the Begleiter XL. My Assassin XL get lots of pocket time too and is super fidgety.

I take it all back. Lock failure, opened in my pocket, and the button it too easy to disengage when gripping the knife. NOT SAFE!

Have you tried the CMB Predator? I haven't personally tried it but I heard it was a pretty good budget button lock, and I like the look of it.

I have the original Button Lock Elementum (still my fav button lock cuz that's all it has), the Elementum 2 Button lock/flipper, Chevalier, and Kizer Mad Tanto. The Elementums have almost zero blade play (especially the BL only), but the Mad Tanto has rock solid lockup. True ZERO blade play. Love that knife Edit: oh yeah, and I'd prefer to buy 6 or 7 different real nice BL knives versus the one Malibu lol

I bought a Kizer Original Gunmetal and it has zero blade play. It didn't come as sharp as I prefer. The action, fit and finish are spot on.

Try to get my hands on a full sized Towser K. I own a full sized Sheepdog in 10V, and after an edge re-profile it seems to hold an edge better. I am expecting the same thing with the Towser.

Asolutely love your delivery man. I've been agonizing over this topic for weeks. I'm on the cusp of getting the begleiter xl but I dunno... I have a Civivi Asticus which feels like it's too long and it's .2" shorter than the begleiter xl. I actually just hate the thing because it screams letter opener. Never even use it, feels flimsy. And it just looks silly (the carbonfiber/damascus was a huge mistake), so clearly a bias but... ugh. Anyway this got me closer to a decision so thanks for the very entertaining and informative video. I'm pretty set on a Kizer, never owned one but I know I find We/Civivi to be too thin for my tastes and I haven't owned a button lock yet. Subbed and thumbed, looking forward to more from your channel! Now back to mulling this over...

WMK has a full size exclusive Feldspar coming out in m390 and fat carbon going to be $199.99. Towser k mini is m6 favorite budget button lock btw. So far anyways. Get a lot for the money. Plus mine has developed an incredible ting on the open and close. All time best button lock...copperhead mini Slim Pickens By the way you'll love the full size towser k button lock. Kole, look up the towser S...it's a wharnie but no button lock, just studs Last thing...the towser k and original are coming out in elmax and fat carbon soon. Pretty pricey though at $240

The assassin button lock is OK. It only has the flipper. But that’s good for what it has. The conspirators kick ass. It’s probably my favorite right now. The Orion Solaris is also good. LTK’s knife has the s oothest button by far . She’s a good size too. I have a couple of these ones, they’re all pretty decent but some stamd in my house more than others. Thanks for sharing. You know how this shit goes someone else’s knife might be set perfect and swing excellent. Even better , does knife talk ever get old ? Heck no 😊

For a smaller version of that XL, the Assassin is well done. The Cormorant is maybe not quite budget, but it’s a keeper. One of the smoothest budget buttons is the CJRB Pyrite. The new surprise gem is the Elementum 2 - it is VERY well dialed in, snappy and a smooooth drop shut. I love a knife that drops shut with that slightly hydraulic feel and doesn’t just slam shut and bounce back out. To do that at $60 is impressive.

For sure towser k. Miles ahead of the rest. I don’t have anything bad to say about it. The two sun I like too but the thumbstuds are sharp as hell and the the grip is a bit short but the action is great and the blade shape is sexy as it gets

My favorite is the Civivi Conspirator. Mine has vg action and ZERO blade play. I also prefer Civivi's Nitro-V to their 14c28n. The Towser is tempting, but those scales patterned on the drapes from a Holiday Inn Express....

Well... after further use my mini Towzer K has lock failure! It closes under very little pressure on the spine. Like when you rest your thumb on the jimping! It also opened in my pocket. Not to mention the button sticks out so much you can easily disengage when gripping tight or especially in a pinch grip. This was my first Kizer. I will be returning it ASAP. It's dangerous in several ways

It's just never performed at any level that has made me go "wow, I really like this". It's always needed a ton of work out of the box to get the most out of it. I prefer low maintenance, high performance.

The DETENT…yes I typed detent, because that’s what it is (a mechanism hindering movement until activated) was absolute trash on those early Civivi’s. Oddly though, Sencut got it really dialed in! Check out the Watauga, terrific knife! Also DUUUDE my job is sending my down to Cinnci for a week at the beginning of December!

I've heard enough complaints of button stick on the Malibu, the same is true of most others in this group. I just expect a lot more of a $200+ knife than I do a $30-$80 knife. that's not to say the protech button locks aren't great knives, they just need to be damnn near perfect to justify costing 2+ times the price of any of these knives IMO.

S110v s30v cmr10... too many options! I'll give pew wisdom in return lol. Replacing an old Kershaw oso that I loved but a "coworker" used a grinding wheel to sharpen... I love my malibu…. But the cutting geometry and behind the edge thickness….. no. Once I got my Crowley and chevalier… they completely rule my pocket space.
