Those old timers def had 1095, in fact I live in New York and a lot of the cutleries around these parts, would get their steel from Bethlehem steel in buffalo ny. Camillus, Utica , Kabar, shrade, and case and Queen in Pennsylvania, pretty sure they all did until it closed in the 70s. Thanks for sharing. I’ll never get the challenge coin thing, I dont understand pocket jewelry. But to each their own.

Hey man, love the channel and curious of your opinion on this: want to get my dad a SAK for Father’s Day. He’s a General Manager for a construction company, been with the company 20 years. Him and my mom are traveling their butts off now that all us kids are out of the house, and they’re out and about all around town when they’re not traveling. I need a 1 SAK solution that he’d carry to work, going out, and traveling. My top 3 are Compact, Sportsman, and Cadet. The smaller and thinner the better, so Cadet checks all the boxes besides corkscrew & tweezers. Sportsman covers that but not as classy as the Alox scales. He doesn’t “know” how good victorinox scissors are, so he wouldn’t be “missing” them, but I know he’d love them so that’s where compact comes in. Compact is just 91mm vs 84mm and not as classy as Cadet. Spartan and Climber are wildcards because they are readily available in black scales at least (slightly classier than red) but they lack the nail care tools. If I knew it was easy, I’d probably get him a compact or sportsman and buy black scales and do the switch myself, but with how easy the celidor scratches, I need to guarantee it looks brand spanking new when I give it to him.

Amazing comment and question Cody! 👏🏼 And thank you for the kind words! The only one that really fits the whole bill is the compact, as it has a nail file on the spine of the multi purpose hook! Other than that I would suggest the Explorer, but that's quite chunky (4layer) climber is also a favourite of mine but lacking the nail file. For me, I would get a compact and then add some custom scales! You can get all sorts made up! I have Micarta on mine and I actually have a short going live at 17:30 UK time showing this, I hope this helps!

Might also suggest as an additional the Jetsetter as it has as mentioned today, the great scissors & the “Rambler” screwdriver +. If there is an SD with only scissors & the nail file with flathead that would also be a good travel airplane set. It would be useful on a daily basis. The compact is really nice & useful. However I usually carry something with a saw & one of the Tortoise Gear Fire things since we live in volcano & earthquake area. Hopefully get home knife.

Sorry , Sapphire Manager over the Pale blue Rambler. No longer need plus scales on anything when you have this. Manager is more comfortable to write with than plus scales pen on 91mm. It's day and night different and believe me. I recently did a new car sale with all the paper work done with my Manager pen and the person I got the car from loved my Manager and was shocked how comfortable it was to write with. I wish I could get a black Manager and I might take the scales from a black Signature and make a black Manager. the Onyx is not bad but not worth the money people want for them and would rather have regular black scales and put black tweezers in it. Black is beautiful !!! Black Knives Matter !!! BKM !!!

This is why I love reading your comments! I love the ideas and options you give brother! If I didn't have an Olight mini pen in my EDC I'd 100% have the midnite it regular manager! You can't be a nice black scaled SAK! Agree about the onyx, way too expensive 🫰🏼

Yeah, I wish they would still black or white 85mm pen scales as spare parts. In Germany you find some coloured versions when buying Vics from advertising / marketing product resellers (for corporate gifts mostly). Though they rarely sell them in small lots. I agree, the Signature and Manager are really nice to write. My Mini Champ is more of an emergency pen. It is a bit too thick to get a nice grip to use it as a pen.

What do you know about the ISC Swiss Army knife? I understand they’re made by Schrade in Germany. I recently had one given to me and I’m impressed by the quality and accuracy of the design. Seems just as good as my SAKs
