Truely a magnificent performance. The best I've seen her do. Her voice is like a heartbeat. Needed. I love the natural quality. The simplicity. The movement of her hands. The look in her eyes. The abandon of her performance. This is the purest performance I've seen done....ever. At the deepest level. It is loving and fearless. The essence of the song. The essence of God. She must be an interesting person.

I have known this Hymn for decades and this is got to be the best and most fervent singing of it I have heard. Eddi does appear to be singing this not as a performance, but as a genuine appeal to the Lord

I have seen Eddi Reader live many times in various settings, both small, intimate gigs and in large concert venues and I can asssure everyone that her voice is far from weak. It's a most wonderful musical instrument and her interpretation of this song is beautfiul in it's simplicity. God, whoever he, she, or whatever it might turn out to be should be proud of their handiwork with the creation of this voice.

O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder Thy power throughout the universe displayed [Chorus] Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art When through the woods and forest glades I wander and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur, and hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze Chorus [Music] When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart Then I shall bow in humble adoration And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art Chorus

Eddi truly has the voice of an angel. This is not my favourite version of this great hymn as prefer powerful male voice covering it, however Eddi could sing a shopping list to me and i'd be in awe of her voice. Eddi Reader is a songstress few can match and in my humble opinion none can beat.

wgl1964: This version is magnificent. It's fearless. Carrie Underwoods opry version, done by herself, is also a magnificent performance. Especially towards the end where she closes her eyes and is totally in the moment. The audience disappears and it translates across to the listener. Both are very powerful.
