Included in this video is the famous Eddie George 61yd run that catapulted his Heisman campaign as well as the eventual touchdown that resulted.
I reiterate again: until Ohio State's Athletic Dept gets off its lazy ass and starts selling these games for weirdos like me, grainy VHS hand-me-downs are what you're going to get on KZfaqs. Apologies, but them's the breaks.
A quick recap of the event preceding this drive:
- Ron Powlus burns Shawn Springs with a deep pass. Yet, on the same drive, Springs has his revenge on a botched fade route.
- Two plays later, Terry Glenn has what I think might be the greatest play in all of Buckeye history: • Terry Glenn 82yd TD ca...
- Afterwards, Ron Powlus, with body fluids running down his leg, botches the center exchange, resulting in a turnover.
- Ohio State tacks on 7 more points.
- Notre Dame responds with a TD drive of their own, but Powlus fails to make good on the 2pt conversion on the option keeper.
This drive follows from the kickoff after Notre Dame's TD drive to make the game a 9pt deficit for the Irish.
On the actual "play" itself, the one that went on the highlight reel for Eddie George's eventually successful Heisman campaign: I'm really not that impressed, per se. I think Eddie made one good move on this play, and that was the change of direction that turned a 20 yard gain into a 61 yard gain. What this play really shows is how ridiculously good the strong side of the offensive line was in 1995. Seriously: Dudley and Pace by their lonesomes were better blockers than most entire offensive lines. Watch the gaping hole those two create for George. I think anyone could have gotten 20 yards out of that play.
The play itself became legend among Buckeye fans, and was best encapsulated in this image that really got Eddie's Heisman campaign into full gear: www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/fls/...
Gotta love Terry Glenn running into start blocking.
The George score makes the deficit 16 again for the Irish. The Bucks would pour it on and win big.

Eddie George, Orlando Pace, Terry Glenn, Ricky Dudley, Bobby Hoying, Shawn Springs, Mike Vrabel... How the hell did this team not win a national championship?? Oh, that's right, John Cooper...

1995, 1996 and 1998. All 3 years were national championship caliber teams and not 1 of them won. Cooper was a great recruiter, but always had a bonehead loss.

Great video! Love these old time games, I was at this one while a student at OSU. Best par of the vidoe is at 3:23 where they show Juan Porter. I own Porter's jersey that he is wearing in this video.

Eddie George is my prototypical PRO RB specimen. Orlando Pace is my prototypical PRO LEFT TACKLE specimen and Andy Katzenmoyer is my prototypical Linebacker specimen.....What could have been, if Katzenmoyer never hurt his neck...he would have been a hall of famer on that Belichek Defense.

Right. Getting those players was no accident. John Cooper got those guys. He was THE best recruiter and talent scout in his day, and the WR's that he recruited were unreal. David Boston, Terry Glenn, Ted Ginn, etc. If only he could have had an eye for great coaches (OC, DC, OL, LB, etc), he would have gone down as one of the greatest ever.

To add to that, there is a stat called "pipeline to the pros." Around the end of Cooper's tenure there, OSU led all universities with the number of players on pro team rosters with something like 43-44. The next closest was Auburn with ~40-41.

Iam a Buckeye fan and a Browns fan from Ohio . Orlando was a great offensive left Tackle . Joe Thomas was a Great Offensive Tackle that never missed a snap until his 11th year in Cleveland . It would be hard to not have an argument about the Greatest Big 10 Tackle ever Joe did go to Wisconsin . I don't know how you separate them . But who would come in third ?

Eddie George was great, but he didn't slap his girlfriend around enough to be considered on the same page as Phillips. Once Phillips gets out of jail from those attempted murder charges, he is going to show Eddie who was the best in 95!

Not saying they would've beaten 95 NU (even though they wouldn't have been able to play them based on the stupid Rose Bowl rule back in the 90s), but Ohio State would've matched up better against Huskers because of their physical style of play. But in the end though, this team (along with the 1996 OSU Buckeyes) had no business losing to Michigan in 1995.

Ahhh that O-Line play by the left guard, left tackle and tight end is just tremendous. You could drive a truck through that hole, and of course it doesn't hurt to have that explosive speed Eddie had, one second he's at the line of scrimmage, the next second he's 10 yards downfield and turning on the afterburners. When a play comes together like this it's just a thing of beauty. Goddamn I love football . . . all those European haters don't know what they're missing.

About the schools selling copies of these games, from what I've heard the difficulty is that the school has the rights to the visuals but the audio and graphics are owned by the studios. So legal issues. Which is possibly why many official dvd releases of tv broadcasts cut out the intros. Some games are available for sale, look online.

"IF", is a HUGE 2 letter word. Hey, if he played a 5th game he could've got hurt, screw up or get benched if he played poorly. It's hard to make an assumption that Lawrence Phillips could've won the Hiesman had he played more. It's like saying if I was born a Rockefeller I wouldn't have to work for a living.
