Taken from a 3 disc bootleg labeled "Parliament/Funkadelic Unreleased Outakes and Demos", circa 1973. I did a little processing on the sound: boosted the right channel a bit, raised the bass level a tad and removed some hiss. No music was harmed.

I had the pleasure of playing drums with Eddie for two years. Performed in small halls to get back to his roots.

I was/am a huge Hendrix fan, had all his records, and I wondered then and later, how come there weren't more black guitar players of that caliber around doing rock, was he a fluke or something? Years later, I dug Vernon Reid, but again, he was almost the only black guy I was hearing. Not long ago, I tripped over P_Funk on youtube, and now I know they were there all along, and Eddie is at least co-equal with Jimi in my thinking. Chop for chop and lick for lick, I think Eddie stands up to any of the other hot European and American blues-based guitarists- Clapton, Beck, Green, Santana, West, Bloomfield, etc., and with maybe two "bonus" points. Eddie could lay back and play ensemble back-up flawlessly, then step up and solo like a fiend, yet never overwhelm his band-mates; and second, when given his head Eddie could take a theme and run with it, solo for ever, and not get repetitive, 10 or more solid minutes of musical story, all fresh and cliche-free. Unfortunately for us all, P-Funk and Eddie Hazel were never marketed/promoted to the white rock audience, too black for white America. We weren't ready for the funk, the package was just too strange, and more's the pity. In just the P-Funk mob alone, you had great guitarists coming out of the woodwork, and Eddie was the first of them. I'm eternally grateful. Universal love.

I think Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Hazel were two people that were the top of there game. And always will be. Instead of putting people down because people think one is better than the other we should just be happy that they was able to share there talent with us, and their talent was recorded for all of us to remember them and learn from them. There are so many talented guitarest thats gone and some that's here ...give all of them the respect they deserve....

I've heard many a wonderful guitarist in my day, but this man was/is the greatest of those I've heard. As great as he was for both Parliament & Funkadelic, I've always felt his talents were not used to their fullest. The stuff he recorded on the side circa 1973 to 1977 that's coming out in the last few years in things like this, JAMS FROM THE HEART, & REST IN P, I wish had been given proper studio treatment, packaged in solo albums & released back then. Thanks for the upload and all the work you did to clean it up.

Jimi would have thrived on the Mother Ship. Eddie and Jimi would have kicked some serious ass on the, Maggot Brain and Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow Albums. They could traded some lead rifts.

I'm pretty sure that the two of them were familiar with each other just out of the love of musicianship....In my opinion Jimi was pure raw talent and being confined to a band structure was not his bag honestly....Eddie on the other hand could give you raw but sill give you pocket presence in a band setting and still you wanted to know who was playing....THATS JUST ME THOUGH

To the small minded idiot who went on the ignorant tirade against Jimi Hendrix. Expanding ones musical horizons and being open to exploring all kinds of music was what Jimi was all about, what need was there to curse him out like that? I love Eddie Hazel and Eddie was about the same thing, though Hendrix was my all time favorite , i heard Eddie first!!! Appreciate, and respect and love them both for what they gave us!!

I remember when I first saw Eddie playing guitar on a stage with a drummer that couldn't keep up with what Eddie was putting out of his guitar, magic was what I thought, when they stopped I approached the stage and asked Eddie if he would let me sit in and jam with him. He looked at me, a skinny long haired white boy and said can you play, I smiled and jumped up on stage, after about a 30 minute jam he came over to me and said he was very impressed to jam with someone like me, that knew how to jam with one of the best, and asked me to join his band. We had some amazing jams and songs we put together and played during my two year run with Eddie. Very blessed to have had this opportunity to play with a master of his craft.

I know that the black community will always prefer the talented guitarists Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Hazel and they are fantastic but there is another that has taken what they started and evolved it to a level that defies comprehension...and his name is Buckethead. He also performed alongside Bernie Worrell and Bootsie Collins, if you still need a reason to check him out. Just look up Praxis.
