Im from Sheffield mate ;) I agree, UK boxing is in a great place right now but as a life long boxing fanatic i see the changes over the years. Skys commentary was shocking with a massive pro Ward bias. I was neutral on this fight, i just wanted a fair result for the sport we love and once again we have a big fight with a controversial result. Do you honestly believe Ward convincingly beat the champion and deserved to walk away with his 3 title belts? I didn't see it, i've watched the fight 3 times now and Kovalev controlled it, plus punch stats show he landed more punches and his punches did more damage. He controlled the fight with his jab which constantly hurt Ward and bust his face up. Something went wrong with Kovalevs right hand though in the 7th, will have to wait and see the news from his team.

Also, its not difficult to see the corruption in boxing, but obviously where theres big money theres corruption. Many boxing fans and people within boxing believe that there should be a more controlled scoring system in place, judging is far too subjective and theres massive scope for bias and corruption., not only for this fight but for all fights. You have an American vs a Russian, growing tensions between the 2 nations politically and theres 3 American judges for the fight, in the USA on a US network. In football, if England play Germany we have a neutral ref and the ref is neutral for a reason. Boxing needs some big changes to make the sport fair, especially now that its not a US dominated sport anymore like it has been for so long. We have champions from allover the world now, UK, Asia, Russia and Eastern block countries with athletes that have trained and worked hard to get where they are to get on the world stage and all fighters deserve a fair fight. PPV in the UK is on the up but its dying fast in the US because the fans are turning away. All this A side B side bullshit is ruining the sport , ridiculous demands for favourable judges and locations. These are parts of the fight that should be neutral and not for negotiation by a boxer and his team. Did you watch the Hooker v Perez fight on the undercard? That was disgusting but it set the scene perfectly.

This is why i get so frustrated and pissed off with boxing. We have a Russian fighter who holds 3 of 4 world title belts in his division. To fight the American challenger who has done nothing at the division but he's a top p4p in America, the Russian has to take less than half the money of the American, take the fight in the USA in fron of 3 American judges. The Russian has to basically knock his opponent out to get a victory. So a Russian champion is worth much less than an American challenger. Boxing needs to become a much fairer sport for all, the UK is on top now and i really hope we make progress and lead the way, its time boxing moved on from the insanity of the Mayweather era and boxers get back to fighting for pride first and not $$$$$$$$

Agreed, i think from what Kovalev said to Max in the post fight interview (although his English isn't the best) he made out that he purposely tried to prove he could outbox Ward after the knockdown for the rest of the fight which if it's true was definitely not the right thing to do, in rounds 3 and 4 i expected Kovalev to do what he did to Cleverly and really step on Ward to get him out of there because he was feeling the power but obviously he didn't do that or even try it. Ward did show a lot of heart though but still not enough to genuinely win imo.

Mark Wheeler I keep hearing how Kovalev started coasting to early and he stopped throwing punches but that just isn't true. Ward was landing huge body shots coming out of the clinch and it affected Kovalev. still Kovalev in round 8 threw 38 punches, which up to that point was his most in the fight and in 9-46 punches. 10- 58 punches. 11-40 punches and he threw 47 in the last round. He didn't coast at all ward just stepped up and you saw 2 top fighters battling for it all. That said I had Kovalev winning 114-113.

James Mac ward didn't come close to beating the champ. was it a close fight yes. meaning nothing really happened, bc ward clinched and didn't want to exchange. points wise kovalev was a head, but that's how boxing goes. ward never had control didn't do enough to win the belts, threw punches in a clinch
