There was nothing racist about the joke.

100% We have a culture of entitled, privileged and spoiled celebs. However, that is OUR fault. We have given these people so much love and attention that they think they are deserved the world. We gotta stop. They're not heroes or idols.

*On what frigging planet was that racist?*

Eddie is Black and David is White so Racism Will be The Storyline
@axelfoley1406Ай бұрын
Because. He's blk. He's from Hollywood. It's his default programming to revert to the race card. Truly pathetic. As someone who grew up with his movies and others from the 80's/90's, it's disappointing to read these types of stories. The entitlement and privilege is strong with celebs in this country. Sadly, we contributed to it.

I remember when that joke was made, Eddie had back to back bombs at the box office in 1994 and 1995. Beverly Hills Cop 3 and Vampire in Brooklyn. Though Vampire in Brooklyn has become a cult classic and not really that bad. He bounced back a year later in 1996 with The Nutty Professor, a film most everyone loved.

Then he made Pluto Nash. 100 million budget. 7 million box.

Damn, Eddie is senile now. Sad. Poor David for being a victim of senility.

Bringing up a Joke From 30 Years Ago and Now it is Hands Across America For Eddie Murphy as People are Whining About How RACIST it Was...People Really Need to GROW UP
@oprahwinfrey2967Ай бұрын
To be fair, that era in the first half of the 90s was a particularly tough one for Eddie. Harlem Nights was terrible as were Boomerang and Vampire in Brooklyn. He did not get back going again until the Nutty Professor. Still, I actually thought it was a funny joke when I saw that segment in ‘95.
@robinfun2123Ай бұрын
What???? Harlem Nights and Boomerang were good movies they just weren't as good as Nutty Professor!
@oprahwinfrey2967Ай бұрын
@@robinfun2123 Harlem Nights was a good movie. However, the all-star cast inflated the expectations for that movie to levels that were never really attainable. Boomerang would have been OK if it were Damon Wayans. However, it was supposed to be Eddie’s big comeback. It was never going to be fair for Eddie following the string of massive hits he had compiled before. 48 Hours, Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, Golden Child, Beverly Hills Cop 2, Raw, Coming to America: No one has a streak that impactful that runs for that long.

The guy whose career comedy scripts are full of jokes on asians, jews, muslims, latinos, etc., and even fellow black people, is offended by a SNL script from decades ago.

Im sure Murphy never told a joke that would bother anyone or could be considered racist
@parabellum5503Ай бұрын
This has been over for years. Eddie was heated, his camp threatened Spade , Eddie boycotted SNL for years. Water under the bridge now it has been said. Not racist a lil harsh considering Eddies stature there. Still very funny in the context of what Spade was doing.

Honestly, as a black woman, I don't think the joke was racist. If anything, it was ignorant. But remember, its weekend update. That being said, these are Eddie Murphys' opinions at the end of the day. Maybe if he went into greater detail on why he thought the joke was racist, then we'd understand, but still.
@axelfoley1406Ай бұрын
Doubt it. There's nothing more to this. We need to stop inflating egos of celebrities in this country. We have a problem with that. Heck, I am guilty of that. I grew up loving his movies. He's nothing but an entitled and privileged pos. It is what it is. The joke was wasn't offensive in the slightest. It wasn't even ignorant. Eddie has said some BRUTAL things about everyone, and he is butt hurt over this. I'm of Indian and African descent myself and have noticed that Americans are getting weaker and more thin-skinned. EVERYTHING is racist...Smh.
