I believe there comes a time in everyone's lives- that no matter how much we love what we do, we go through our own level of "burn out". And Steve's career consumed him 24 hours a day, for years. I'm just so glad he decided to come back and share some more of his life with us.

When we think of "rock stars," this guy obviously rises to the top. To hear one of these icons talk from his heart and be as humble as he is ... well, I'll be rooting for him and for his new album. Honestly, have never heard an icon as humble as this guy. Wow ... almost restores my hope in humanity ... almost.

Considering They were THE MOST popular band in America, I'd say he accomplished enough, but if he could keep one foot on the ground, he could tour the atmosphere again now and we'd be right there with him, but if not I'm happy he gave us this much! Love you STEVE PERRY!

Steve; you truly brought joy and the soundtrack of our lives. I don’t think you have any idea how deeply you touched our lives. Back then; but now also of our latter years as grandparents looking back on our lives with smiles and a few regrets! Traces is the soundtrack for our last decade or so of our life. And we truly adore you!

I’m 49 and Journey with Steve Perry has always been in my life and I have been missing his voice for so long! I was so upset he didn’t tour Houston after the release of his album For the love of strange medicine! I loved the cd and even bought a bootleg of a show online. To me the greatest male vocalist of all time! I already purchased the new album,cd and whatever autographed because I love the guy! Sure hope he tours in my area. Would love to see him one more time. 1987 was the last time I saw him live and it was amazing!!!!

Kerry, I'm 49 as well and I agree with all that you've said. Steve Perry was a major part of our culture in our generation.
@jcortese33005 жыл бұрын
Agreed with him about singing and how it messes with your mind. I play harp, and if I wear out my strings, I just buy a new set. If a singer "wears out their strings," they have a much bigger problem on their hands. When YOU are the device, that's crazymaking. Good on him for surviving it and sharing his gift with us again!

Testament to just how vivid the changes in the industry have been since Steve stepped off....I JUST checked into the Billboard Top 200 chart ...JUST to see if 'Traces' might be anywhere on it. No surprise....it isn't. And it's unfortunate. You have a talent like this....in the industry as long as he'd been....enjoyed immense popularity, established himself as a distinguishable, indefatigable vocal phenom...24 years away from it, and all the excitement and hype generated from all of his radio appearances promoting the album (a very old-school method, by the by!!), and ...nowhere to be seen because of how people insist on obtaining music. I know that's how it's done these days...but Jesus...some of us really enjoy seeing the achievements our heroes reach. I know there's a lot of people who know this album's out there and how it sounds (which all by itself; yes...it matters tremendously), but it so deserved better recognition than it's gotten.
@ScottJohnson805 жыл бұрын
So true! And it would be the same if he were to get back together and create a new album with Journey. The album would do well it's first week, then fall out of the Top 200 the next. The tour would fill many seats though! It's just the state of the music industry today. Legacy acts do well on tour, but certainly can't sell albums!
@jakekenny33995 жыл бұрын
@@ScottJohnson80 Yeh...and the lack of album sales for some reason just annoys me...back in the day, we had to buy albums on blind faith!!! And we either liked it in its entirety (or...near it) and dealt with the rest...hoping one 'clunker' or another would grow on us in time. And as much as I understand someone's (hell...anyone's) desire to download the songs they truly like once they hear them...fine!! I say PAY for them!!! Let the revenues of what you downloaded be the added financial assistance any band (veteran or non!!) could use to promote and budget a tour that just MIGHT have added visual value, thereby softening the blow of what the ticket might cost!

Excellent interview by Eddie Trunk with Steve Perry who's a genuine class act. Good to hear hear and see Steve making a strong comeback at the time when so many talents have departed and record sales are struggling. Let's hope this is a boost to a waning industry and a success for a well deserving artist with a genuine voice. Today's so called artists can't hold a candle to him... 😎🎸🎹🎛️🎼👍

One of the greatest voices in the music industry ever!!! I don't care how great all the singers that have sung in Journey since Steve has left, they never filled his shoes. Steve Perry is irreplaceable when it comes to the greatness of Journey. He is the original and he did not mimic anyone else.

Ricky Martin said Steve Perry was his favorite singer.
@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr28235 жыл бұрын
@@TheMICMusicInspirationChannel Disagree. Covering 1 or 2 songs, or bits of them is a big difference from being a Sam Cooke mimic and not having or trying to have your own sound with your own songwriting merits. You only hear the Cooke turnaround during the Sam songs. Maybe twice otherwise. Um..."When you're in love" off FTLOSM. Nothing with Journey I can recall. Nor Street Talk. Again, I might not remember it right now. But it's memorable in itself. And I founded a new Perry/Journey tribute. I still sound like me. All the guys love how I sound, (not like a girly girl, more like Tina Turner, with some guts to it) but it's me. I'm not ever going to sound like Steve. Which is ok, because I sound very uniquely like me. :) And *nobody* sounds like me. lol. I sound more unique being powerful than ballads, where I end up.sounding like Karen Carpenter or Carly Simon. jmo :)

I will never forget Steve Perry coming out to meet the fans after the show on the Journey Infinity tour in 1979. I was a little confused because his shirt was tied in front like a chick’s. But that was a style thing. Anyway, he is a class act.

For anyone that may not know, or truly understand, maybe a new generation curious about the truly great, authentic talent America produced, just listen 'Someday Soon' off of Departure. That's but one of many songs, including Steve's solo work, where it becomes more than just a stellar voice that goes from soaring to tenderness in a few bars but where you're rocked to the inner core of your being a soul. Few singers have done that to me, Steve's at the top. Then we can go down, so many, from Aretha, Donna, Prince (2nd) you name them. Do they do that to you? Take you away? Rock your very being? That's more than just music, it's healing. Am I being hyperbolical? Deservingly so. Thank you for sharing these interviews, I can't tell how great it is to see and hear Steve loving to sing again and seeing him healthy! ---Gary

My sister was in love with Perry back then. I didn't get it, but I wasn't into love ballad bands. I watched the documentary when Journey was looking for a replacement and finally settled on Pineda. My wife if a Filipina and until you have experience with it, you can't even fathom how poor these people are in the Philippines. This was like taking Pineda from the absolute gutter and turning him into a rich superstar. I have zero against him. He's such a modest, grateful guy who said he'd gladly step aside if Perry wanted to come back. That's integrity. You'd think Arnel would be worshiped in the Philippines, but the big superstar to them is Manny Pacquiao. I keep telling my wife that he's getting too old, but she doesn't get it.

Can you imagine how difficult that life style must be. And he probably put everything into it every night that he performed. How can you keep that up? I wonder if they had breaks from tours? I guess I was around nineteen when they started touring. And around that time I started working for my husband's business so I became enslaved in that. The radio was on all the time so of course I heard all their songs all the time. But didn't necessarily follow the ins and outs of things. Have only recently been listening again and reading about them. I didn't even know what Mr. Perry looked like until recently. That's pretty weird I guess. But I have to say, his voice is the best voice in r and r history. What a gem. Bring us some more tunes please Mr.Perry.
@my2cents8385 жыл бұрын
He is a well balanced guy. You have to take into consideration how long it takes to get that good at singing. He was singing long before the public knew anything about it. I hate to date myself but I saw him in Western Massachusetts when he was jumping around the stage like a jumping bean. Even at that young age I knew he couldn't keep that up. He was like some kind of acrobat or something. I am always amazed at the flawless vocals. He knows how to get an awesome sound and take care of his voice at the same time. Many times when singers go for a passionate sound they easily strain their voice. He is a true artist. I imagine that he is very intelligent in many areas.
@777jones5 жыл бұрын
my2cents you are right. He knew he could not live a happy life as a rock star, he knew his head wasn’t on straight. So he went home, disappeared and lived a real life instead of flaming out and being a statistic. That was smart.
