Mr Van Halen left a very special mark on me when he indirectly inspired me to build guitars. I had a hard time getting what I wanted out of store bought instruments, when Mr Eddie did a video on guitar making and how he had the same problem. After his motivation, I learned how to do it, and since I have made several guitars, and exactly what I wanted. I make sure I give Mr Eddie credit for changing my life in more than just his awesome guitar playing. I'll never forget him, and hope someday to cross spirits with him.

That struck me too. It drives me crazy because its misleading. He had studied proper music extensively, before he became the "just a punk kid who plays guitar" ..and revolutionized the instrument both from a technique AND from an equipment perspective. Young people need to understand that you dont get born great. It's really not a casual thing to become that good. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work before you can be at the top and say casually "I'm just a punk kid who plays guitar"

I've been thinking the same, somewhat knowing what's it's like, having lost my younger brother to cancer last year, and we were both in construction. I was 12 when he was born in 76, and my parents allowed me to name him Gregory. I found one of his first paystubs when he came to work for me right out of high school. He went on to do his own thing, so we weren't nearly as close as Eddie & Alex, but for a long time I would forget that I couldn't call him any more when I wanted to talk shop. The hardest thing I had to do was go get his trailer of tools and bring them from his job to his house, then go through and sell a lot of his stuff. So I can imagine what Alex is, and will be, going through. Probably a big reason why I've been watching so many VH vids the last few days, and why it hit me extra hard.

@@user-rd8vp6nq8b Isn't it a shame that Rhoads was killed so young? He really was just getting the acknowledgment he deserved when that plane crashed. Had Rhoads lived long enough, we may have been able to compare the two fairly, but EVH had staying power over his entire lifetime. Had Rhoads lived long enough he very may have, as well, especially since he was successfully able to change bands. You are absolutely right that Rhoads was a true phenom and, for a brief time, the two of them were contemporaries and both extraordinary. Rhoads was one of the few guitar gods who died so young due to someone else's reckless and senseless hubris, and that may be the biggest tragedy of them all. I think I was 14 at the time and even I couldn't believe how stupid that bus driver was (and when a 14-year-old thinks someone is reckless and foolish that's pretty sad because they don't really get consequences for action yet at that stage of neurodevelopment). Thanks for your comment and the reminder about Rhoads. I have to admit, though, it just made me so sad to revisit that bright talent whose light was snuffed out too soon.

Since Eddie's death, the house where they used to live has turned into some sort of a pilgrimage site, covered with flowers, candles, paintings, messages and pictures to honour Eddie's life. Eddie was adored by millions not only for his musical abilities but because of his sheepish smile and humble attitude. I believe he gave everything for his fans when performing live. I saw them about 15 times live and they were phenomenal every single time. I cried when Eddie died. He wrote the soundtrack to my life since I was 10 years old hearing them for the first time in vinyl. No band will ever impact me the way the Mighty Van Halen has. I'm both angry and sad Eddie left us too soon. He was otherworldly in his guitar playing and songwriting. The GOAT.

Edward was just on an entirely different level than everybody else in every way imaginable . Even if you took away his tapping he would STILL be far and away the greatest he really was that special . His groove and flow will never be matched especially his impeccable ridiculously tight rhythm playing , just absolutely flawless in every way .

I love the fact he's so humble, and have heard in other videos him say he was blessed with a gift, which means he credits God so he doesn't think he's God. That's a big deal, he's not running with the devil, Dave is.

The comradeship was really appealing to me as a fan. The chemistry/connection between these 4 guys - Ed, Al, Sam and Mike was tremendous. I always felt like I was eavesdropping on a party when I listened to the music and saw the videos. And I think this points to why the band was different with DLR. Different chemistry. Different ingredients = different flavor. Not necessarily better, but different. And with Gary Cherone, who I really loved with Extreme, again different. Very disappointing and different. But like ALL relationships they come to an end. One way or another. No one likes it. Unfortunately Marriages fail, siblings battle and friendships dissolve. We don’t have to like it we just have to accept it. Even when our own lives were given the sonic soundtrack of Van Halen. I guess we have to be happy it happened, not sad it’s over.
