At EDF we're here to help and part of helping is making sure our customers get the right information.
We understand smart meters haven't received the best press in past couple of years and you may be hesitant to install one.
In our video we'll address some of the most common misconceptions about smart meters such as health risks and data privacy.
By the end of this video, you'll have a better understanding about the reality of smart meters and be able to make an informed decision about whether or not to adopt this technology in your home.

Last Christmas, over 200 people lost power because their smart meter discinnected them due to a computer fault. They were without power for days. That wouldnt have happened if they had an old style meter.

My friend couldn’t top up hers and a lot of people I knew who was with “BOOST ENERGY” couldn’t either and it was freezing at the time. I have a smart meter and only live a few doors down but I am with edf energy so don’t think they was effected.

Their foreign call centre is absolutely useless except that they take the payments from my bank account - but it isn't credited on the next bills. I can't be the only one this is happening to. I pay over the phone not by direct debit. Probably other energy companies also. They send estimates even though meter reader come every 3 months or so and I have phoned in my own readings. Software can only do what it is programmed to do. Everyone knows that. Maybe some of us can do a class action against EDF.

I doubt one would be more accurate or reliable as my standard gas and electric meters, which I read daily. And here's a 'myth' that needs to be 'debunked', in no way will a smart meter reduce your bills if you've an ounch of nouse (which these patronising companys assume you haven't). And I think EDF was the company who once grossly over charged me and with whom I had to fight for months before they actually coughed-up.

the whole Smart Meter roll out is costing 11 billion pounds across UK and Europe, who do you think pays for this? and isnt it funny the bills are increasing 3,4 and more times since they want everyone "switched over"

Is it true that "smart" meters can be used to remotely disconnect your supply without someone visiting the premises? This opens up the possibility of erroneous disconnection by faulty software.

Every 6 months I get a letter asking me to read my meters, and I do. I don't see why that's so onerous, personally I see smart meters as completely pointless at best.

It's to track the peaks of usage so that the grid doesn't overproduce energy. Seeing your energy in real time is just one of the additional benefits.

The smart meter is not so smart then, and EDF won't fix the problem. You might accept a below par installation, but if you are away when the meter reading letter comes what then?

Please I am begging people to avoid this company 😢 i am 3 days without my gas supplier with 2 small children at home at winter time ! I spoken to about 12 people since then nobody helped me yet properly. Its a big big shame I can no even coop with it anymore.

my old key meter went blank l could not top up or see how much money was on it when l called edf they said l have to have smart meter as they not making old ones anymore , l better not lose what money was on my old meter or from the key l charged that dont work , they can't fit smart meter till november which is really long to wait

Hi I am a edf customer and I have just changed from a smart meter today to economy 7! But it looks exactly the same bar they have changed the top of the meter like some Toshiba white box with lights. Literally looks exactly the same. My only complaint with it was, I was told they can be changed to anything direct debit, pay as you go prepayment, etc… But I had to have my meter modified as apparently a smart meter can’t do a day and night tariff so I had to change to economy 7 just to get cheaper electricity at evening time as that’s when I use the most between 8pm and 12am. As in work so not here much during the day so made sense to me. But was wondering what time it goes down in price as it’s after 8pm and it’s still charging me full price! Surely after 7 8pm it must change ? As midnight till 7am is no good for me. Can someone tell me internet says 8pm with edf till 7am

Depending on your location mainly, there are different configurations for when the night rate kicks in. Most night rates are closer to midnight, the most common being between 11pm - 6am. It's set by the grid's preference and is configured by something called an SSC.

apparently octopus have an off peak at 7p a unit! usual economy 7 is 11pm start until 7am but not sure if that is winter time or summer time, plus you will be charged more for daytime with economy 7... maybe check out octopus and ask them if they will fit a standard meter too...

@@timkelly5602 I had it changed back to prepayment payg same prices as DD customers. It was 12.30am on weekends and 1.30am in weekdays so that wasn’t working out. Changed to British Gas much better I think my gas seems to last so much longer. When I was edf I would use 3 to 4 quid a day minimum and I live on my own in a one bedroom flat. So that was enough to make me change in the end 💯😂

The cut me and my kids off supplier for 5 days during winter because of the faulty meter and poor orientation of the people working there. I was pay as you go customer and they charging me £640 for god knows what after i left .

Who is paying for the smart meter's operating power? "Smart meters SHOULDN'T cause any [wifi] issues" - which says they can, and probably do, mess with the wifi. "Safe as a mobile phone" - so not safe at all then.

There is a new government bill going through parliament which will mean that you will have no choice and will enable the power companies to restrict or reduce your power usage at any time. If you resist intallation they can forcefully enter your home and also fine you a substantial amount, You need to push your MP on this.

The privatised police service and privatised courts, along with long privatised government and all departments have no lawful authority over us, because they are no longer public owned. Sometimes some of them lie about this. I have enough details though.

@@angr3819 Since the scamdemic, no meter reader has come to my property. They have tried to increase my DD when I was already £250+ in credit. I told them that if they did, I would cancel the DD and pay monthly. I work my own bills out [I only have gas with them and forced on me by my previous company going 'bust']. My bills are worked out fairly accurate as it depends on their 'calorfic value' [which can go up or down]. The price increase was only given to me at the start of this month [after it came into effect] when they are supposed to give you a month's notice. They are all scammers especially when it comes to the 'standing charge' bit!

The traditional meters are reliable and don't tend to break down. Smart meters are known to sometimes go faulty. People have reported being charged outrageous bills. Did that ever happen with the traditional meters?

The biggest myth you need to debunk on this video, occurs at timestamp 0.50 sec. It shows that 4.13kWh of combined gas and electricity only costs 82 pence? 😂

@edfenergy would be believable if you were a capable company, I have been trying for over 2 hours in past week to resolve a mess you made in June. We are no longer with you and yet you still cant make your mind up on how much the 4 day bill was. Absolutely shameless company who i will never spend a penny with again.
