You need to contextualise the characters and their actions within the structure, ideology and domination of the British empire and the reactions of the threatened or subjugated. According to your logic Empire and barbarism are not right or wrong but relative and part of the human complexities. What about if the movie itself wants to hide the forest by presenting a tree.

Commencop 666 fair comparison but I'd argue the USA don't really use this strategy. You see with the British empire the war would end and then they and there native allies would build a new country at which point to empire would sneakily gain control of everything and start doing stuff like mining the resources. The USA on the other had don't want to war to end because that's how there empire makes money, where the British empire made there money when things were stable the USA make there money when there not.
