@WillowCreekPictures PS The whistling sound of LRT's X-reg Atlanteans was due to the Eminox exahusts which were fitted to them in mid-life. The whistles were caused by a short piece of stainless steel flex at the base of the exhaust downpipe, so when the throttle was applied, this produced the 'breep'. Many people thought that there was something wrong with the exhausts when they heard the whistling sound, when in fact it was a part of the design.

@WillowCreekPictures The routes were as follows: C3 - Newhaven, Leith, Elm Row, Bridges, Surgeons' Hall, Prestonfield, Hay Drive, Kinnaird Park. 42/46:42 - Portobello, Craigentinny, Meadowbank, London Road, St Andrew Square, Hanover Street, Mound, George IV Bridge, Causewayside, Cameron Toll, Duddingston, Portobello. The 46 followed this route in the opposite direction.

(One of many)Dave Clarke-@ Pure. Went. Done. Bought a membership. Haa! I became a ‘Pure Member’ Man, the C5 buses were basically a shared taxi when they first hit the roads. You just held your hand out & it stopped.

I noticed an interesting new route change today from the Lothian Buses mail bulletin. The 45 is being extended to cover the East side of Edinburgh, this time the change begins when it comes though George 4th Bridge. It will go through Chambers Street then join onto North Bridge heading down to Leith Street and along London Road. The biggest difference is at Meadowbank, it heads to Portobello rather than Willowbrae and then past Eastfield to QMU replacing the 15 which ends at Eastfield again.

@StevieO1974 Thanks, great info; sounds like the 19 became part of the old 42 route.

@WillowCreekPictures It did eventually - the 42/46 survived the first revamp in March 2000, being split in October 2001. The 19 was itself a circle route for many years.

Excellent video, brings back some memories. Where did the 87, C3, 46/42 and 106 go to, I'm aware of those routes by name but don't remember where they went. I was surprised to see the 42 on London Road. Nice to see the Leyland Atlanteans, they made a great sound and the Leyland Titans on the 15A route. I wish the orange Olympians were still around but I guess without the wheel chair access and them being old accounts for that. Was there a 52 as well, I have vague recollections of that here.

Not sure the full route of the 42/46 circle, but I know it went up Mayfield Road and I think George IV Bridge. 52/32 circle went round all the schemes on outskirts of Edinburgh - Wester Hailes Oxgangs Gilmerton, Niddrie, Portobello, Leith, Newhaven, Granton, Silverknowes, Davidson's Mains, Chorstorphine, Sighthill, and back to ~Wester Hailles - I once did the full circuit - took hours! If the 52 was in the video, must have been off route and going to Annandale St depot
