Starring Burt Lancaster, Peter Capaldi, Peter Reichart, Jenny Seagrove, and more. Lovely movie. They played this at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo that I went to in either 1996 or 97. Theme of Braveheart at beginning of Tattoo, Skye Boat song also played, but this......this song has my heart.

I was fortunate enough to land in Edinburgh that day, picked up by my Wee Scottish Lass we came to this amazing Tattoo, Mark Knophler has always been a great idol of mine and to hear "Going Home" with bagpipes got me teary eyed. Heard this at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Melbourne Australia in 2016, I distinctly remember the feeling of my body being covered in goosebumps and the emotions it brought about and decided that this was going to be the song to be played on my final journey back home to my family members that have passed before me.

Goosebumps, watery eyes and a massive lump in my throat! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I listened to this tonight for our 4 fallen Police officers In Melbourne. 2 have been laid to rest, 1 has made the long journey home by road to Newcastle with full honours, and our final officer will be laid to rest tomorrow. Then they will all be going nome to the big station to serve and protect us from above. 💙💙💙💙

Had this played as the final song at my husband's funeral. He was a proud Scot, a guitarist and a piper. So it was an obvious choice. I hope he heard it.

That guitarist is Matt Gregory, from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. He starts the great Mark Knopfler "Going Home" fairly slowly, then really lets it rip towards the end. Great compose, great number, great guitarist playing it here, & the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards giving the perfect backing. Absolutely spell-bounding!

I have heard this song played by hank Marvin and the shadows and i loved it, but this was incredible a lone guitarist with an entire military band behind him. I wasn’t expecting the pipes and drums to join in, when they did I got a shiver down my spine, makes you proud to be scotish

One of the all time greatest instrumentals ever. ! Composer...guitar maestro Mark Knopfler of the group " Dire Straits ". You must hear the version played by the greatest instrumental group of all time...the British group " The Shadows ". There is also a version of this played on stage by Hank Marvin , Lead guitarist of The Shadows and Mark himself....both with their Stratocasters....incredible music.!!!!! Music that is inspiring , rousing , and thrilling. Awesome.!

Lovely song and played very well on guitar, but even better when the pipes started. "going Home" was played at my wife's funeral six years ago. She loved Scotland and the pipes, glad we got to tour there in 1999.
