Sometimes it is difficult to think about one play ahead let alone 3. He was deciding between trooper mill, sirocco effect, possible back rows, and follow ups after all of that, from one return play. That mirror force was probably at the front of his mind but the after effects were probably not even a thought with so much happening at once. Siroccos effects would probably have been an OTK too which was also a distraction I bet. We can see in hindsight that both should be attack mode, use trooper mill then swing into force.

If he would have put everything in attack mode he would have drew a card off trooper and had vayu in grave. That would have changed everything
