@@melaninking199 Good call - According to Wikipedia, "Edna Mode" was directly inspired by Edith Head. Brad Bird, the director, voiced her character.

Edith Head’s last film was the brilliant Steve Martin comedy, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. Martin looks every bit the part of an old style gumshoe, thanks in part to Edith Head’s amazing work.

I love the grey suit combo she did for Danny Kaye in "White Christmas"----even the socks and shoes were spot on! It was in the "The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing" song and dance number with the marvelously talented Vera Ellen....They don't make them like that anymore!

The scene here with Anne Baxter's character criticizing Columbo's tie as he investigates is quite similar to what Faye Dunaway's character would do on another Columbo episode many years later. Both guilty.

Edith in one of her signature outfits- for herself- She always wore neutral colors, she did not like to take attention away from the stars.

It wasn't because of the stars she worked with. She said so herself in her book The Dress Doctor (1959): "I experiment. I don't say, "I can wear only beige suits with white collars" (my favorite); I follow fashion. I couldn't expect my distinguished clientele to pay me much heed if I didn't. Besides, the emotional power of clothes is terrific; they are the best nerve medicine in the world; why not use them? I experimented. I'm not a bad guinea pig, either. Im just over five feet, I couldn't be accused of being a grey-hound, but that is no reason for being negative. I don't look like anyone else. Why should I? That was a mistake that held me back for a long time: trying to look like other people. Then, about twelve years ago, I began concentrating on me and evolved a style of my own. Colors overpowered me, prints overpowered me, so, be monotone."

Ms. Head was awarded an amazing eight Oscars for costume design. Seven of them are seen on the table. I'm betting the missing Oscar is for "The Sting", which she won just weeks after this "Columbo" episode aired.

Another difficult clip: To what benefit is the offer of a tie and an admission of potential dirt? Perhaps the character senses the inevitability of the discovery - surprised to have kept it hidden this long - and hopes only to finish this last picture? idk

*Mrs Columbo* Pop quiz, my friends: how much did my husband earn as a LAPD lieutenant and in which episode was this disclosed? Hint: his nemesis went on to become famous, but I personally felt that the episode was lacking and the multiple (now) famous actors under-performed.
