I learn something from every one of your videos, Ben. As a Q2 neophyte, I'm striving to get as much "in-camera" as possible so that I can use a lighter hand in post. Seeing the way you edit here is insightful. I would have spent an hour of handwringing over each one of those beautiful images! One of the things I'm picking up from you is that the process starts and ends with intent - know what you want to communicate when capturing the image and simply use post to ensure that the message is getting through. A simple idea, but one that I'm still working toward. Thanks again.

Thanks so much Kris! Really appreciate you taking the time here. INTENT is the KEY. Actually have been toying with the idea of doing a "Rant" series video about intent. Cheers.

@@adventureStaley I, for one, would attentively listen to that rant. Without getting absurdly deep in a KZfaq reply, I would very much like to hear how and what an artist sees through the lens. How to perceive and project the moments, places, and people that evoke universal meaning. There is a great deal of content explaining how, less so about why. Rant on! : ) Kind regards.

Like with almost all modern photography, there are two art forms being displayed here … 1) The actual photography itself and 2) The Post Production of the images. With the advent of digital photography, post production has been taken to unbelievable (pun intended) heights. While obviously photography skills are essential and important, in this modern age, post production skills are sadly more important. With good post processing, one can make a mediocre image good if not great or at least appealing to the eye. I’m torn over this. The purest in me says, “Out of camera is or should be best”, but then you see the fantastical imagery after post processing and are just like, “Wow”!

Great pictures and video! Agreed I do love your general photography and general photo life videos a little more but it's great see your editing process. Also, I mightve painted in the darkening of the background by hand as I can't help but notice the sharp gradient line in the background, especially on the one of Lucy and for the clouds, but that's just me. Having just watched your Q2 for Landscape vide this follow up is excellent. I'm relatively new to the Q2 and I've learned so much from these two videos. The first illustrated the potential of the Q2 for landscape, the second how to realise some of that potential. Thank you so much. Do you offer on-line tuition / courses on landscape and portraiture? Keep well. Gerry

Thanks so much for the kind words of support Gerry. There will be more landscape videos coming. Actually the very next video going live is me doing some landscapes with my Q2 and M6. That will be in a week. Before the year is out I will do another strictly Q2 video with some new Landscape equipment I have acquired. That should be cool. I don't do any courses. Just the free vids here. Once the covid thing passes I plan on having some Portraiture Workshops (Portraiture is my real jam). In the meantime this video has a lot of landscapes with settings. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mKeIZrB3rs6ohps.html Cheers! Thanks for watching. B

Great, thanks so much for sharing Ben, I loved the simplicity and effectiveness of your edits and the fact that we could actually "hear" your thinking process as you were performing the edits. Priceless, much better than looking into a pre-made edit, I hope you make more similar videos :-) ... In the last photo, did you turn the Q2 lens to its Macro mode or not? I am very interested in similar types of shots and I'd like to know up to what close focusing distance you can use the Q2 lens in its "normal" mode, and whether it's preferable to turn into Macro mode for most close ups for wide-open shooting, or if it doesn't really matter much (depending on the situation). Thanks again!
@adventureStaley
@adventureStaley 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Manos. That shot was not macro. I think I was maybe a meter away from the focus area. Planning on doing an all macro video soon... By soon I mean in 7-8 weeks when I get back to civilization. Stay tuned!

Another great video Ben. Especially love that last picture, exactly the kind of thing that 99% of us would have shot at F16 or beyond but your shallow depth of field with the blurred sunset looks amazing! Sorry if I’ve missed this elsewhere, but presumably you have thought about a Q2 monochrome? Do you feel that your colour Q2 can do it pretty much as good? Do you partner it with anything else bigger or smaller, medium format, APS-C?
