Nice reaction, thanks! Yeah, top favorite lists are volatile. Although "Syncopation" is probably on global top 5 easily despite not being on the international release of Metal Resistance. I consider it their best song overall, once I put aside my personal style preferences and biasses. As you mentioned, it's a masterpiece.

It's my favourite. And I think it would have been fantastic as an opening song for a Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood series (well, a cut-down version, of course)...

I was at the concerts in Australia last week, and I was in the second row right in front of Moa, and she's even more beautiful in person than she looks on video. So is Su for that matter. They're both 😍.

So Yui and Moa have writing credits for "Song 4" in the first album, and SU has credits for "Divine Attack" in the fourth album! THey have a team of people working both for Lyrics and music composition, and Kobametal the producer has the final say in everything! For Syncopation the Lyricist credited are Norimetal & Kxbxmetal (Kobametal). Other lyricist for the second album are Kitsune of Metal God, Mk-metal, Yuyoyuppe (Takehiro Mamiya, who also did music and/or arrangment for many of their songs), Nakametal, Ryu-metal (Ryugi Yokoi), Nakata Caos, Tsubometal (Tatsuya Tsubono), Tmetal (Yuuya Shimizu), Yoshifu-metal. If you leave the decision to us, we will make you listen to all of the songs :D I love all of the songs from the third album! There is such a diverse sound!! Just 1 I would skip or maybe incorporate with another one. "Future Metal" is the intro to the light side of the album, and always gets played before "Da Da Dance"! So you could do the 2 together! Future Metal is not worth a separate reaction imho

They had Japanese release only songs because Japanese still mostly buy(or at least back then) music on physical media, and it is cheaper for them to buy from overseas they would do this to encourage the Japanese fans to buy locally, we did get From Dusk Till Dawn in it's place so it wasn't a one sided deal. This song is ranked as one of the favorites by most fans, you should look up a version with Yui in it also, Tokyo Dome is a good one, because she really shined doing this dance, it really suits her crisp precise dance style

Don't forget Akatsuki, you only did the unfinished version. There is also Onedari Daisakusen and GJ! at Budokan 2021, which are the Moa only versions of those songs. There is also The One - Stairway to Living Legend, which is the piano version of The One. There is also Babymetal's covers of Tamashii no Refrain from Legend 1997, and Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai from Budokan 2014, both of which I've subtitled.

Syncopation is an incredibly popular song among fans in spite of the fact that it only appears on the Japanese edition of Metal Resistance. For some reason, Koba thought that Syncopation was "too Japanese" for western fans, so they put From Dusk Til Dawn on the international version. They've only ever played this one live outside Japan on one occasion, at Brixton Academy London in 2019. It remains one of the songs I most want to see them play live. Su wrote the lyrics for Divine Attack. Moa and Yui wrote 4 No Uta. Babymetal actually has a song writing team that Koba oversees. They are constantly working on new songs and when they are not touring, they are tinkering with them in the studio. Unlike most bands, Babymetal do not write a bunch of songs, then go into the studio and record an album; instead they are constantly recording and iterating songs that are works in progress. They said in recent interviews that some of the songs on The Other One have been in development for as long as five years.

I'm pretty sure Momoko just got her mic when she was announced to be the third metal in April 2023 so all the ad-libs are moa.

Yes, but they aren’t “ad-libs”, they’re lyrics. An ad-lib is something added spontaneously during a live performance.

Awesome reaction. Now you can see why this is a fan favorite lol As for songs written by the girls, Su played a big part at least in writing Divine Attack, if not then she fully wrote the lyrics for it. Yui and Moa wrote the lyrics to Song 4. The rest of the songs I think are written by a few different composers, which I think plays partly into why each song sounds so different. Either way, it seems that no matter WHAT Babymetal does, it is always top notch. They truly are awe inspiring lol

Don't forget Akatsuki from the 1st album. You only reacted to the unfinished version. The live performance from Budokan Black Night 2014 is my recommendation.

if u plan to switch to 3d album - 1st song on album is Da Da Dance . its techno metal. Its like dance club track. U will like it, i think. they also have trance metal song on 4th album (Metalizm)

As far as the girls go, I'm not positive how many they've written, but I do know Yui and Moa were credited with writing "Song 4" (Black Babymetal) and Su has writing credits on "Divine Attack" from the new album.

Who writes the songs? Lots of people share the job. The girls are credited for the lyrics for Song 4 (Yui & Moa) and Divine Attack (Su). But that is only part of the story. Su is involved in the songwriting more than one might think. She wasn't in the beginning but she is now. Su tries out several melodies and changes lyrics to better fit her vocal flow. And she decides if a song is ready for recording. She also directs the mix.

Strictly speaking Su-metal was already involved in the very first song, she changed some lyrics to make it easier to sing.

An other example: Road of Resistance was performed the first time at the Brixton venue in the UK in 2014. When they were at the venue and did the soundcheck, etc. it turns out the venue had a lot of reverb. And Kobametal said: this venue doesn't fit Road of Resistance. Then Yuimetal put her little foot down and said: no, we will perform it here. It's important, it fits the story (general lore) and the song has it's origin in the UK. So Babymetal changed the song, removed a guitar solo during the wow, wow part and thus it became more like an a cappella part. And that is how the song remained to this day.

Thanks for this reaction. Babymetal lyrics from when they were little are written in a way that if the girls/ladies did write the lyrics this might have been what they would want to write. So even for the songs they didn't write, it's still in their voice. And based on And let's remember all the dance moves are connected to the lyrics, they do have a choreographer they work with to help come up with all of it. With a lot of the songs the girls have input in the dancing/choreography, most of the time after the song is done their is no input from the choreographer anymore, with the exception of some big shows that need choreography to be adopted for the stage like Tokyo Dome. In smaller venues, etc. it's all up to the ladies.

Something else to point out from an interview April 2016 (they were 16, 16 and 18 years old): Kobametal: ...I will say I think they have gotten much tougher. For example, they work out their positions on the stage and the start signals amongst themselves and they know well how to use the ear monitors and things like that that are actually quite difficult to know how to use even for adult musicians. Q: Could you speak in more detail? Kobametal: Things like how to get the best balance of sound out of which instruments are used or how to adjust the differences that occur in large concert venues compared with smaller ones were things that the girls did not know how to approach in listening to the sounds of their shows at first. But now that they have done numerous tours and shows they have acquired the sense to know what to do and now they make detailed requests like asking that the drums be raised in volume for this song, or since this show is in a large venue could you please emphasize the rhythm a bit more and things like that. The ability to master the use of ear monitors in one’s teens is a great accomplishment, I think. Q: In other words, they are able to know what sounds are necessary for their performance? Kobametal: That is right. In the past they did not know what sounds were coming from which guitar and didn’t know the difference between the drum’s snare and its kick but recently they are able to say that they want more drum sound to make it easy to dance to this song or that and that it is easier to sing to the song with this guitar sound being enhanced and things like that.

What a great way to finish the second album. 🦊🤘 A good place for buying Japanese music is Ototoy, that's where I got Syncopation, BBAB and my collection of J-Pop music. I had never bought CDs or high quality music files until I found BABYMETAL and explored the Japanese music industry. I've now started a small but growing collection because this is music that I truly love. 🎶

It is circulating among some users in reddit a version of what is been called Iine - feat. Chibi Babymetal. It's so bad that the copyright of Amuse doesn't allow it yet on YT. Babymetal has a chibi version in the other One. There is also a Karate chibi version, but not so good in quality yet. This happened in the concerts of January.

I think you should react to the full third album, no reason to break the flow after doing the first two. There is one short instrumental called "Future Metal" that you could perhaps bundle with the DA DA DANCE reaction, because there is no point in making a separate reaction to it.
