The dress reminds me of Donna Summers' McArthur Park, where she sings about her yellow dress foaming like a wave. Lovely 70s doll!

Thanks for the review and comparison. Your content and camera quality is always appreciated. I ordered this doll, can’t wait. There are so many sentimental aspects about this doll for me. 1. That was the year I was born. 2. There weren’t lots of black Barbies when I was growing up or they were hard to obtain. 3. She has that 70’s-80s nostalgic Barbie face/body that I grew up with.🥰

I'm glad that they remade her! I saw how much people were selling the vintage ones for and that wasn't an option. She will be the sister to my Moschino Barbie in my doll stories.

Very nice. My original Superstar Christie also had broken arms. I ended up putting her on a MTM body. Thanks for comparing the two dolls.

The face on your new doll looks great. The one I ordered has a lip paint smudge and the lips are a bit off-the-mark. I will be returning her and don’t know if I will bother trying to replace her. She is beautiful, but I am more nostalgic for the blonde, pink dress version, since that is the one I had as a kid. Also, these are $60 in Canada, and with more coming in the Superstar series and the Rewind series, I need to budget. I’m glad you got a fresher-looking version for yourself; the hair is certainly better.

Ugh, that price hike for you guys sucks, ugh. Then a lip flaw on top of that? Oh no! I am glad you are returning. If you do not love, then you might be better off not getting a replacement. Mattel has been snatching my dollars lately, so I gotta budget myself too!

I’m not sure about the friend who broke Christie’s arm. With a doll that old, it could have been brittle or had some preexisting damage. I wouldn’t expect her necessarily to pay the whole price, but she should have offered to pay something. It’s also a good idea to warn people about a vintage doll’s fragility and cost, or don’t let it into their hands. If she is still a friend, I would tell her that she can now make it right by buying the repro.

Unfortunately, they are no longer friends LOL I agree with you though, I don't think she needed to pay for the whole doll but I think she could have offered to find a replacement body for it. At the time I was horrified, but as the years have gone by, maybe it was brittle. After that, I get a little nervous about touching other people's dolls lololol
