Savoie ( 9th overall in 2022 ) is finally done with Junior hockey and is ready to play pro as soon as next year. I think he needs a little bit of time in the AHL mainly for his decision-making, but every other part of his game is NHL-ready.
Edmonton got a steal with him on that trade…

@@TChockey Still have to think Buffalo could have gotten more for him if they wanted to offload him. I'm guessing they did him a solid because he wanted to come home.

@@Kjell777Iverson For years no-one wanted to play for Florida, now they all want to. Buffalo isn’t in that enviable position and never will be. All they can do is build a winning team, get the fans involved again at the KeyBank, hope that entices more good players there in the future. Until then, this is the reality: trading a prospect for a need. But I thought Savoie was a waste of a pick, considering Buffalo’s lack of size up front. Benson was clearly drafted to take his place, even though he was similarly built.

Savoie obviously must be talented but I was disappointed Buffalo took yet another undersized forward w/ that 9th pick. No idea where he fits in the Oilers’ current plans, who he’ll replace in a year or two. This trade works more for my team than Edmonton, as McLeod is instant help. Savoie might work out, but he isn’t stealing minutes from any of the Oilers’ top dogs.

there is zero risk on the oilers side. If he pans out to be a great top 6 guy, insane trade. If he end up being a middle 6 small winger, its not the end of the world they only gave up Mcleod and Tullio… they are in a win win situation
