Holland did a good job as an Oilers GM. There are some awful signings but there are always some good signings and trades. The Oilers were 2 goals away to win the Stanley Cup this year.

It was a little sad to not win this year. More sad for McDavid. But that's ok, this team and its fans have too much heart. Next season is going to be a big one. Lord Stanley will be waiting us.

I always liked Keith Gretzky. I felt bad for him when he was overlooked. Might be his last name and the optics it provides. But I think he's forged his own way in the hockey world and I'd give him a shot.

Considering the state of the Oilers when Holland took over from Chiarelli and brought them within one goal of winning the cup five years later.

IMHO Perry is too slow. I think he'll retire but I don't think they're resign him even at the minimum. I can see Henrique and possibly Foegele pricing themselves out of Edmonton. They need to make room for Lavoie, Broberg, and Holloway plus probably Rodrigues (goalie). That keeps the pricing down somewhat or gives you some trade assets. It would be a shame to loose Lavoie without truly seeing what he can do when paired with skill and on his proper side. Same for Broberg. We've only seen Rodrigues at the AHL level so hopefully he plays a whack of exhibition games and gives them enough to pull the trigger because he ISN'T Waivers Exempt (neither is Lavoie, Broberg, or Holloway).
@yelling38747 күн бұрын
I'm willing to bet they sign both Pickard and Rodrigue and leave the question of where Rodrigue plays for later. Pickard is a known quantity, will be cheap to sign, fit in well with the team, and seemed like he was a good, stabilizing influence on Skinner. They need that stability badly. That leaves Rodrigue in an awkward position, kind of similar to Lavoie's. Pretty good chance that one or both gets moved, if not over the summer, then right at the end of the preseason. (Though I agree, Lavoie should get a longer look at the NHL level...)

Ken Holland probably doesnt wanna be the GM who traded Leon away.

I’m not sure who is available but I think the players would like someone who won the cup in the last decade as they know the current demands of teams in this era. Thanks Pat, enjoy the break!

Any trade for Jack Campbell would require Oilers retaining at least 70 percent salary. A buy out is more likely.

Ken Holland is a Money Ball example of the "Halo" effect. In short, his experience and gratificaction was under the Little Caesars empire in Detroit. He was a goalie in the NHL and his first professional mgmt. position was as a Goalie Coach with the Red Wings. Did he make it as a GM for 4 Stanely Cups? Yes, but again, it was a Halo affect for him in Detroit. The hard work was already done by his predecessors. Overall he was a failure for the Oilers and has essentially handcuffed the Oilers from getting a Stanely Cup. Ken, it's time to hang up your goalie skates.

I said it on Tyson’s page also: How do we not have any candidates line up for the draft and free agency. It seems like Jeff does not even have a clue as to who might be the GM or who he even likes for the role. With all of the UFA’s we have and the potential Leon extension this is concerning not having anyone to steer the ship.
@OilersFanatic7 күн бұрын
I don’t think it will take long and ultimately its Jackson’s ship, he’s just hiring someone to steer it
@yelling38747 күн бұрын
Idk whether you mean candidates for GM or for new players, but either way, I don't think you should be worried. The best options for GM are already working for other teams, and it's the busiest part of their year. Jackson will have to get permission from their teams to talk to them, and nobody's going to grant that right now. As for drafting and signing, they've had months to prep and they would have done so knowing Holland probably wouldn't be there. The staff is prepared to get through this part of the year without him. And, whether you're talking players or GMs, they don't want to leak names. It'd just hurt them. So yeah, radio silence on a lot of things right now. That's normal.

Cory Perry has slowed down too much. The Oilers need to try and lock up at reasonable cap hits Janmark, Brown, and perhaps Foegele, then sign RFAs Holloway and Broberg. After that, if they can get Carrick and Desharnais at the $1.15M or whatever the AHL burial limit is, they would be decent depth pieces. It would be great if they could also sign Henrique, but he likely commands too high a salary to fit under the cap.
@monicaarisman42936 күн бұрын
Even though it's a long shot. But I'd take Henrique over Foegele. And, Desharnais should look elsewhere. We have too many young D that need to be given a shot.
@user-iz3gv5vo6b6 күн бұрын
@@monicaarisman4293 I'd love to keep Henrique, but he could get $4M+ as an FA and it would not make sense for him to take under $3M in EDM. The difference is just too much. The Oilers would benefit with Desharnais as the 7th D, but would not blame him if he takes a better deal elsewhere. What young D do you think is better, and is ready to play in the NHL yet, who's development would not be stifled if they sit out most games as the 7th D? Wanner? Needs another year. Neimo? Love his hard hitting but, his defensive play isn't good enough. We would need a right shot, so Kemp?

Not getting this team a top-tier goalie since 2017 is criminal. Wasted the best years of our superstars.
@kyle83706 күн бұрын
I agree. Lots of wasted years. Finally had enough supporting players to win a cup this year. Unfortunately the coach didn't play those supporting players enough in the final series.
@timduhamel57606 күн бұрын
@@kyle8370 Crosby, Kane, Stamkos, McKinnon, Fleury. Players picked first overall that are now considered generational players all won cups before their first ufa contract except for Ovechkin. McDavid could very well be the best of all of them. The Oilers looked so good in the Anaheim series that year despite Talbots meltdown they were the favourite in 2018 for the cup. Then klefbom who was great starts having injury issues and Talbot couldn’t stop a beachball. Two years of missed playoffs. Then Smith Koskinen Campbell, and now Skinner. When you have this kind of talent sell the farm to get a goalie that gives you a chance. Skinner’s numbers were the worst in the NHL playoffs for 30 years before the three game win streak against the Panthers skewed his stats. McDavid deserves a top end goalie. Should’ve won last year and this year. Possibly the greatest waste of talent in NHL history.
