I love these short small compilation - straight to the point videos with examples! Please keep doing these, i think they have helped me the most to understand certain techniques! I suggest videos with the structure of different drumloop types, one with layering leads/bass/chords etc, one with white noise and risers etc, one with common fx fillers and how to make them fit, one with panning tips, and one with balancing EQing frequencies? Sorry if too many xD Also something i wanna learn is how to smoothly speed up/slow down parts of the song, like make a pluck/arpeggio smoothly go faster and faster before the drop. One more thing, i find it very hard to make a big room-type of track with all the reverbs etc, a video on that or similar would be cool! :) Awesome content, keep it up!

Also check for phasing issues by switching back and forth between mono and stereo... if the audio level drops in mono, you have phasing issues. Use a stereo tool to fix it (invert one channel for example) Phasing issues are super common, even in pro audio tools like soft synths, Kontakt libs and other VTS and sample libs. Always do a quick stereo to mono switch to test for phasing or overhyped widening, which will cause levels to drop when in mono. Great tips :)

First question: StudioOne Artist, the volume of an acoustic guitar recording through microphone is very low (compared to previously recorded tracks of acoustic guitars with pickups), the knob on interface is at the maximum, tracks out level -12db, the amplitude of the signal wave is low to normal, still the sound is hardly hearable even when i pop up the buss' level to +4db. Why? What can i do? Second question: StudioOneArtist does not support the outside VTS plugings, is there any pluggin in StudioOne Artist that can give an effect of Ozone Imager2 (widening the sound, phase)?

Great tips as always 👍I didn’t knew that you also can use saturation, or just anything, what makes the sound slightly different for left and right to create width. I thought you only trick your brain by delaying L and R a tiny bit with this haas technique. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙌

Beware of using haas effect on dry samples such as drums because it's really causing phase issues in mono and can be deceiving when the the samples are on full left and right. Better use just 50% left and right so that phasy sound could be heard on both stereo and mono. Take note that this is just my opinion about issues with haas effect. But I think haas effect can still be good for synths with phase randomizations in their oscillators or has some modulations and effects that affects the sound randomly, as the phases of each frequencies from the synth sound is randomizly positioned at nature. Still struggling to find the right words for these, so I wish you would understand what I really mean.^_^

Hi been mixing piano and sound effects like ocean sounds and synth sounds for a track - seems like there are lots of overlapping frequencies as the piano track uses loads of different octaves be great to have any tips on this - would you automate the eq? Finding it quite hard to get a good balance and sometimes would like the piano to be forward and sometimes back in the mix. Sorry for all the details! Really like your channel😀

Try mixing in mono so your ears can focus on the frequency clashes, then switch to stereo when they are sitting well together

I tend not to use the Utility to spread; it tends to render weird results for me
@jefefpv1695
@jefefpv1695 3 жыл бұрын
@@EDMTips I have never achieved weird results. Maybe you can post a video showing us your bad experience with it. I have been using utility width or ozone 9 to spread a synth with no issues.
@EDMTips
@EDMTips 3 жыл бұрын
@@jefefpv1695 Ozone 9 is great....utility doesn't process it in the same way, though...it just spreads out the side information which doesn't work if you have a mono signal and sounds a bit weak if you have only a little info in the sides. Ozone, however, actually creates a stereo signal (similar to the haas effect, but more complex, and better!)
@PushButtonSocietyMusic
@PushButtonSocietyMusic 3 жыл бұрын
@@EDMTips Yea when attempting "Utility" widening for my tracks it tends to cause insane audio dispersion when I'm sample testing on mono devices(cell phones/cheap speakers) so I avoid it at all costs. It might sound good in the studio, but when I put it in a car or through a stage PA it gets real silly real quick: for me at least........

Hi Will, thank You for this and all the other videos, I`ve really learned a lot. Maybe You can answer a litlle question, perhaps You can make a short video about it. I made a 303 track and used the Haas effect to make it really wide. In stereo it sounds great and it sounds clear as well. If I turn to mono, it get`s mudy and I have no idea, what to do to work against this problem. I tryed a lot with L/R eq and M/S eq - it got a little bit more clear but it still sounds awfull in Mono...what can I do? The last few weeks I nearly only focused on mono / stereo compatibility and I just found a few good videos for this theme (the best one I found on the fabfilter channel kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oqd7eJqSmdXapY0.html) Maybe it´s time for You to make a video about this, because You are are one of the best (maybe even the best) explainer in my opinion. With many many many thanks for all the great content! Wish You all the best from Cologne, Germany!!!
@EDMTips
@EDMTips 5 ай бұрын
Oh if you apply the Haas effect on your bass you will run into phase cancellation issues the moment it's played in mono! That just won't work. You can M/S EQ all you want. :) Keep your bass centered to avoid that issue. If you need your bassline to be wider then work with a dedicated wide layer on top (but make sure that layer only has mid and high frequencies). Thank you for your support man! :)🙏
