the six main performers with that perfectly synchronized back half-step with a little lean to it - makes this oiran walk the best in the world imo. I've seen walks where the drummers and the lampbearers and so on at the front end have some great dipping side-steps, and that is pretty great, but this leaning half-back-step all in synchrony just stuns me.

I agree, this is by far the most spectacular presentation I've seen. I watched a lot of these on KZfaq (never seen one in person, however 😢), and it strikes me how differently the presentation is executed within the different schools. This particular group looks to be older as well. I've seen other groups where the performers all appear very young.

Edo Wonderland is in Nikkō, Tochigi, Japan. I visited it in early April of 2017. This Oiran procession was awesome to see up close. There is a lot to experience and you could easily spend half a day there. The staff stay in character 100% of the time. Got hands on instruction on how to make rice cracker, intro to playing the shamisen. Got a lesson on how to swing and hold a katana. So much to do there. There you can rent period correct costumes and fit in nicely. I got a samurai costume. The staff surprised me while I was crossing a bridge as they sent a princess in distress running to me. Two Ronin were chasing her and she pleaded with me to protect her. I played along and had a blast. It is located about 2 hours north of Tokyo. Great place to visit if visiting Japan.

花魁走在路上，好像春風吹弄著栁樹。髮簪隨著擺動的身軀，更顯花魁不凡的氣質。華麗的衣服襯托出精緻的五官，這樣的冰雪美人，只有王孫貴胄才能博她一笑吧! 弦歌不輟的夜晚，她正與嬌客飲酒風雅。不知道那位貴公子有幸能與她共度今宵!

@@lottie_here She’s an actress in Edo-era theme park and it’s actually 花魁（oiran), not 芸者（geisha). We don’t have real 花魁 anymore.

@@lottie_here This is not a geisha. This is an oiran - the highest level of prostitute. There are still actual geisha in Japan, but I do not think actual oiran exist anymore (I believe all prostitution is illegal in Japan now - if I am wrong, please, someone correct me, thank you).
