How much credit does Edu Gaspar deserve for Arsenal's revival in 2021/22 as the club's technical director? His manager-of-choice, Mikel Arteta, has impressively taken the Gunners from back-to-back 8th place league finishes to challenging for top four last season.
Aside from his communication and personable skills, Edu has shown a fiery desire to return the club to prominence. How? By rejuvenating their squad one season at a time over what he’s described as a “five-year plan” before Arsenal are strong enough to challenge the best of the best.
Although he engages in the club's transfers, Edu’s squad-building strategy is not purely his own, but a process that he openly shares with the executive team, the board, and-most importantly-Arteta. So far, the pair have done a stellar job at strengthening the young Arsenal side, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Fabio Vieira being the latest transfer recruitments.
In fact, as early as December 2020, Edu believed that Arsenal would only be truly competitive in time for the 2022-23 campaign, even admitting that qualifying for the Champions League last season would have put the club a year ahead of schedule.
We are presumably in year 3 of Edu’s five-year plan, making the aim for the 2022-23 season loud and clear: Return to the UEFA Champions League.

Willian and David Luiz were added to be the mentors to the youngsters coming from the youth team. If I recall correctly, Saka and ESR said in an interview that it was David Luiz who helped them settle in 1st team when they just got promoted from the youth team.

Edu was my Favourite player in the Invincibles alongside Lauren. Hard working and skilled players that usually went unappreciated but still vital in the unbeaten run... I still wear number 17 on my jerseys. Hope He is the man who will lead us out of this wilderness and into glory.

I have not seen a technical director and manager get on so well as these two. They have a real good friendship that has progressd the team and club. Even better they are all ex Arsenal players including BFG.

Edu deserves a big part on the back. He has collaborated with the Coach most scrupulously to put in place an AFC team that is committed and Winning Drive. A team that is bonded together, focused an purposeful. Thanks to both Edu and Arteta for giving AFC Fans Hope for once again

I will judge him after the mid season. But for now the club needs a fast game readings hold midfielder who suites in the new age of the squad. That's telmans Yuri. If we are to have any silver wear this season

I agree with holding judgment but I don't think Yuri is the answer imo. Getting Sergej Milinković-Savić from Lazio would be my choice in the middle of the park

True but the reason why we need Yuri is that he has adopted to the pressure of premier League elite and he is so quick than xhaka and party in terms of being so fast he would feet in well. But as of now the future seem promising for the gunners

yeah, Luiz was good with the ball to begin with, its just his defensive side that is lacking (although he did win quite a few aerial duel with that big afro). Also, when he's partnered up with either Mustafi or Sokratis... nothing much he could do.

I think Gabriel Jesus is a wonderful gift from Pep .. The spirit and togetherness has been building.. Can they make top 4 Well who will finish above them ... Liverpool Man City Chelsea ?? Man U will they get going under the new guy... I doubt it and Spurs have Conte a seriel winner.. So 5th was not that bad .. But this year is going to be their BEST since Arteta came

Don't attribute this publicity hungry Edu. All the players are selected by Arteta and negotiated and brought in by Edu. Edu can't buy without approval of Arteta. If so why this hailing of Edu as if he runs the team.

The team is still slow especially our top modified. They have done this for many years and seasons. I think in my opinion we need a reliable holding midfielder who is so quickly to set the pace where the team should follow. A transformation? Seriously? 😂😂 He has not delivered any major success, he's a rookie that barely did anything in the team itself when he was playing. He has no admirable qualities of a good technical director, he didn't set any targets last season, just "wanting to see the team play". The amount of smoke being blown up the Arsenal management and hierarchy's asses is so delusional and out of proportion. Until we start consistently competing and winning trophies - what football is all about - then I'll be convinced but until then there is no transformation of any kind at Arsenal

so is united under... 6 managers? (how many years was that?) sacking managers too soon is the worst decision (United should've given Mourinho another 1 or 2 seasons) , and its called 5 year plan so not seeing any major success is normal. Arsenal aren't ManCity , Chelsea , or United. They can't just buy star players left and right and hope to win some trophies immediately in just a few seasons. They need a system that works and stick with it (which is what they did right now), and changing manager means changing the system. Repeating rebuild over and over again like United is not a smart thing to do. I'm sure if Ten Haag is given the time, he'd need at least 2-3 seasons to clear out the dead weights (because, no other clubs would want them) and another 1-2 seasons to fill in the gaps with the players he wanted. That's 5 seasons at the very least.
