To all the comments saying it is Bach yes the main theme used is Bach organ prelude in Fminor Ich Ruff zu dir Herr Jesu Christ but the composer goes on to enhance it with synthesizer. Also, consider how many learnt about this Bach piece from this film. I myself would never have known it as Bach has just so much music. I play classical guitar and since I loved the Bach piece so much I found the score in a library and arranged it for guitar. Oh and will be uploading that and other guitar music on my channel sometime in the next 3 months if you are interested. I came here to listen to some of the other ambient music from the film as now I want to arrange some of that for guitar as well, which promises to be a challenge. Solaris is such an enchanting film I think it is one of the best science fiction films ever made, up there with Planet of the Apes, 2001, Star Trek A Motion Picture and Forbidden Planet.... Oh yes and if you have not seen Runaway Train 1985 I recommend this is not science fiction but it is gripping and it also uses a theme from classical music Vivaldi's Gloria, in the end titles, you should find that on KZfaq, it is so beautiful
@lorifairhead8124Ай бұрын
PS I came here looking for the characteristic music that is the theme when the girl incarnates but there were only a couple of bars so overall I was not too impressed with this soundtrack. The beginning is just noises from the film with the Bach faintly in the background so it was not even the composers work there. The Bach should have been played only 2 times not like 4. I did give a thumbs up for it though to support the channels good work

Hidden Masterpiece. I knew about the film (it is in my "to-watch" list since always) but didn't know how awesomely this holds on its own without the film itself's support. It's beyond futuristic. Artists like lull, Lustmord and every dark ambient conoisseur should kneel down to this OST

It was the same for me. It was on my backlog for easily 3 years but I didn't take the time to watch it. To be honest the first 45 minutes were a hard start but past that, it was beautiful, mystical and almost esoteric. The soundtrack fits perfectly well to the differents scenes. Very spatial, then nostalgic, wistful... Amazing movie.

It was the film that introduced me to Andrei Tarkovsky. It was like discovering water. In all of his films, you would think both himself and the composer wrote the film and the music together. Complete understanding of human beings and nature floating together this artist has.

a bit pointless hearing the horse and dog bark on a soundtrack, but I remember liking those scenes in the film: the contrast between living in the countryside (where one can be conscious of true silence) and living in the city (the car scenes), where even when you think there isn't a sound, generally speaking there is (as you only become conscious of, by way of comparison, after spending a night in the country). I'm often fascinated by the rural-urban difference. I'm also often fascinated by the bizarre ways of electric light. Switching a sun off and on inside a house. It really affects one's sense of reality, I believe. Makes me feel I need to spend a night in a field in a tent for the sake of a wake up call for my senses. Better that than meeting dead people on a space ship anyway or expecting enlightenment from a TV set. by the way, this is a real "soundtrack" (not just the music); a good reminder of the film in synopsis
@PaulSmith-qs1es3 жыл бұрын
I have lived in the country my whole life and outside is always a racket of insects and birds, if not fourwheelers and trucks. Why people say there is quiet in the country has always baffled me, and I suspect it is by people who do not live there.

@@PaulSmith-qs1es Because our senses have evolved to filter for specific noises, and because urban sounds are diffuse and clutter to our brain, I think people experience quietude in the countryside more than they hear it. Insects buzzing and birds chirping is vastly different from hearing construction machinery and motors whirring. The former sounds are what we’ve learned to listen for over thousands of years, the latter is something we’ve been around for less than two centuries.

that bit from 23:20 actually reminds me of the opening to andreas Vollenweider's caverna magica album that his wife recorded, except his music/albums (excepting Traumgarten) were generally doing to a "scented-candle sensualist pop sensibility" to sell, not icons, ghosts and "Hari" etc. a la this

For everyone lavishing so much praise on this composition: You do realize that it is a DIRECT knock-off of J.S. Bach's Chorale in F Minor, BWV 639, originally written in the early 1700s, right? I've played and recorded the original piece on acoustic piano myself. I mean, it's still a good soundtrack, but ... it's not really from Artemiev; it is 99.9% from Bach.
