One of the most sublime sonatas by Scarlatti, which, among numerous others, should be much better known. Excellent performance.

You make a good point; however, like Haydn’s symphonies, the number of fantastic works is so great that too many are not as well known as they should be. This is yet another exceptional, sonata of the highest quality; it’s interesting that this sonata - originally conceived for the harpsichord - should sound so well on the piano - truly astonishing.

@@ohiomyfired Many, really. However, to begin with a few: K 232 performed by Chu-Fang Huang, K 217 & 218, K 437 & 438, K 554 & 555. Sandro Ivo Bartoli did the complete collection beautifully on piano, with really enlightening introductions, and Scott Ross' performance on harpdichord is just outstanding. Charles Avison arranged some sonatas as string concertos, also worth a listen. I hope you enjoy.

I hear the cleanest strikes/articulations in contemporary playing in your performance. Joined with an emotional intensity that is highly focused yet meditative, your performance never ceases to move and amaze me.

Listen to Scott Ross playing this in a harpsichord. A piano does NOT have the ability to give the timbres and effects and affects that Scarlatti meant. The music was written for the possibilities of the instrument on which it was to be performed. The piano can do things that a harpsichord cannot do but a harpsichord can also do things that a piano cannot do.

Si Scarlatti hubiera conocido el piano al igual que Bach, estarían maravillados con los pianos de hoy en día, el clavicémbalo está bien, pero el piano saca el alma a esta maravillosa música, de una manera que no puede hacer el clavicémbalo, yo escucho siempre el clave antes de interpretar a Scarlatti en el piano, pero creo que el piano consigue ir más allá, sin despreciar el clavicémbalo ni el clavicordio.por cierto en mi canal grabare alguna sonata muy poco conocida mañana,las sonatas del Padre Antonio Soler, amigo de Scarlatti también son una maravilla.

Эдуард Кунц исполнял эту сонату на конкурсе Чайковского неподражаемо.До сих пор помню впечатление,которое произвело на меня тогда его исполнение.Каждая "золотая"нота на своём месте..,и форма..и состояние. Не могу найти нигде эту видеозапись.Сейчас -это хорошее исполнение, чудесный звук,но, к сожалению что-то утратилось..(это только моё мнение). Безмерно уважаю этого замечательного музыканта.

To me, I think that there is a tiny bit to much robusto in the performance. A good bit is good, but not a lot, for it is barquet after all

No, the rhythmic nuance is perfect, as is the use of pedal. Any less and it would be square, boring and unexpressive. This is a gorgeous interpretation.

Very Nice, but i dont always agree with the interprétation for some parts of the pièce : not enough contrast when the music is repeated (scores 16 and following, 23 and followings...) some times too much slow, ...and the end ... the Last chord in D at the right hand is toooooooo late ....very too much

Lovely. But nothing to do with Scarlatti's intentions. When will we understand what baroque composers were saying...? The instrument they wrote for is an important part of the answer. Plus an understanding of how harpsichords speak...
