My mom sold Avon in the 80's and 90's. I remember being in the basement watching movies with my dad when the Avon Product Parties were going on upstairs.

This movie was marketed as a modern fairly tale from the imagination of Tim Burton. This film is every bit that statement. Amazing film

Johnny Depp's look as Edward is iconic, now. Such a unique costume, hair, makeup (and of course the hands). One thing that often gets overlooked is the old age makeup on Winona Ryder as the grandma. It's not flawless, of course, but all things considered, I consider it among the very good age makeups of the era. Some people have complained about it, wondering why they didn't just cast an old lady- but I like how you can see it's Winona in there, reminiscing about her youth and the love she lost. Using a different actress wouldn't have had the same effect, in my opinion. As age makeups go, this is one of the quite good ones! Especially considering Winona was so young, and she was made so old, that is notoriously difficult to pull off well. But they did! The makeup team- Ve Neill and her crew- on this film was top notch! Opinions may vary and that's fair, but in my opinion, I like it.

The older gentleman is Vincent Price,one of best actors in the Horror genre of the 50,s&60,s.

It's a wonderful modern tale

Avon was considered old fashioned when this movie came out in the 1980s, Avon was started in 1886! I had to look it up and couldn’t believe it was that old! Love your reactions, girls! This movie is one of my favorites since I was a little girl. This movie made Johnny Depp one of my first crushes. The music is gorgeous too, Danny Elfman is incredible!

Fun Fact - Tim Burton got the inspiration to make the old Mansion on top of a hill overlooking the suburbs from his time at his Art School, California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). A weird looking place that also overlooks a suburban neighborhood in Southern California and where he also met Paul Reubens and Danny Elfman.

When the trailer for this came out in 1990 one word came to mind, bizarre! Needless to say I didn't want to see it, plus Johnny Depp is kind of bizarre as well-fitting!
