Lightnin' Hopkins was a pioneer in the regional style of Texas Blues. He was a protege of Blind Lemon Jefferson and an influence on countless artists.

Excellent work on the history of one of the greatest bluesmen to ever come along. I was just a freshman in high school when Lightnin passed away. I did not know of him tell a few years later after being inspired by the movie "Crossroads" 1986

I have Lightnin' Hopkins version of Green Onions on my playlist. The long banter before he actually plays the song is priceless.

He could play some of the nastiest licks that would make the hair on your neck stand up. That’s what first turned me on to Lightnin. Later, I realized lyrically he was a great story teller. Near the top of my list of the greatest bluesmen of all time.

You're preaching to the converted with me and Sam Lightnin' Hopkins. Even the late John Peel (DJ) announced his death on his radio show all those years ago. Simply sublime.
