Today would be my mom Gurtrude Giddings 75th birthday sadly she lost her battle to breast cancer in May . I am playing Sparrow songs Tribute to her memory. Mighty Sparrow was her favorite singer I grew up listening to his songs as a little girl we had every record he released. THANKS !!! to Mighty Sparrow for making my mom happy throughout the years with his songs. RIP MOM !! love you

I was wondering because I saw him in NY last year and he sat down to sing. I was almost in tears because he did look like he was in poor health. Oh well all our great men have to leave us one day. I pray he is not suffering

Always a fine performer. I recall seeing him perform on television in Lagos, Nigeria in 1977 during the Festival of Arts and Culture of Blacks in Africa and in the diaspora (FESTAC). His splendid voice still very much intact. May the Almighty bless his soul in heaven.

I was so fortunate to see him live in 2009 in a park in Queens NY.. I was home and I started hearing the music and I went to see what was going on and it was him performing live in a wheelchair.. I didn’t really know who he was, so I called my mom and she went crazy I had to go pick her up so she can see him and I was amazed at how my mom was enjoying herself.. I started listening to his music on my own and fell in love with it.. some things I didn’t understand so I would ask my mom what it meant and she’ll explain it.. now I’ll listen to him when I’m showering especially when I’m cleaning it motivates me to clean more lol

The king at his best, the audience was a little slow in the beginning but show out in the end of recordings, you can just imagine the afterparty

I had the cjance of hearing him in 1957. I still have a couple of his 78rpm original recordings and Jean & Diana are there!. In 1959 I could travel to Trinidad last time I was thee and also found an LP by RCA with some of his songs (LPB-9035 = Ñuñu, Keep the City Clean, Monica Dodo, Raphaela, etc.) I still have them all.

A taxi driver on Tobago called Marco Polo played the Mighty Sparrow on cassettes as he hurtled round the island🌴 - That was my good fortune some years back - being introduced to this joyful music with its mischievous lyrics. Cheers Marco! It's great to hear the range of the Mighty Sparrow in this show. Amidst the rousing and delightful Soca and Calypso songs there are beautiful, tenderly sung ballads.

This man I love so much. When I finally met my Caribbean cousins . I grew up in Los Angeles they mostly lived in New York St. Thomas & St. Croix. It was my uncle birthday so I was invited so that they could meet me. That was the best party I had ever been too. I'll always remember the Mr. Walker and to much wood in the fire, well I fell in 💕 Love with Sparrow and his music that was in 1968 an to this day 9-17-2021 I still love him and his music. He's the best ever.
