Eestimaa Laul 1988

"Laulvaks revolutsiooniks" kutsuma hakatud sündmusterida kulmineerub 11. septembril 1988 üritusega "Eestimaa laul", millest võtab osa veerand miljonit inimest ja kus avalikult nõutakse Eesti iseseisvuse taastamist. Rahvarinde, karskusühingu, Eesti Raadio ja "Kodamu" korraldatud suurüritusel esinevad armastatud näitlejad, kõnesid peavad rahva juhid ja erinevate liikumiste eestvedajad, isamaalisi laule laulavad ansamblid ja koorid, kõike saadab rahva tuline kaasaelamine ning poolehoid.

Kas keegi võiks mulle palun anda Jannseni tsitaadi ( 34:54) bibliograafilise allika või konteksti: Tsitaat on erakordselt lihtne, lüüriline ja sügavmõtteline meie emakeeles "Kui mõni mees teaks, kuidas mõni teine mees munade peal peab kõndima , siis mõni mees mõnda meest ei mõnitaks. " Johann Voldemar Jannsen 1819-1890 Can someone please give me the bibliographic source or historical context of the Jannsen quote at 34:54 The quote is exceptionally simple, lyrical and yet profound in our mother tongue. My paraphrase is not as lyrical as the Estonian but simply boils down to .. "If we knew how others have (had to) to walk on eggshells, then we would not scorn or diminish others. This of course is reminiscent of the Native Indian prayer ... “Not to judge another until you have walked a mile in his moccasins” which actually comes from a 1895 poem by Mary Lathrap "Before you cast a stone or falsely judge his conditions. Remember to walk a mile in his moccasins"

This was the first biggest singing festival in Estonia witch was held in 1988 witch was before the Soviet Union fell and the Baltic countries were free.The singing festival was basically an uprising against the Soviet Union and telling that they wanted to be free from the censorship and oppression of the Soviet Union and that they wanted their independence after witch they had gained in 1918 and had lost in 1940 and was gotten back in 1991 and by singing and protesting against the Soviet Union they gained independence along with the baltic states and so the Soviet Union fell but they didn’t command their troops to withdraw until 1993
