Thanks for posting this video! I was at 390th AMU at MHAFB 86-88. I can't believe how much I missed that engine sound.

I was scared to death they’d send me to Mountain Home! Went to WAFB in AZ instead. Loved the EF.

I was at Mt home from 1985, I still miss that whine of. Those engines. Loved being a crew chief on that jet!

Gotta love the old General Dynamics/Grumman EF-111A Raven "Spark Varks" of the United States Air Force that unfortunately retired in 1998!

Sorry about the water mark in the middle of the screen, I didn’t have the budget to remove it at the time.

Did they do an oil scavenge just before shutdown?
@chuckfarley47142 жыл бұрын
No, we were lubing flaps and slats for the seven day inspection. SOAP samples are always taken after shut down.
@hinglemccringle59392 жыл бұрын
@@chuckfarley4714 the engines seemed to spool up right before shut-down. Why did the pilot run it up for a few seconds before shut down?
@Name-ps9fx8 ай бұрын
@@hinglemccringle5939 That is the scavenge of which thou speakest 🙂

I was a crew chief on the FB111-A at Pease Air Force Base (SAC 509th Bomb Squadron) from 1972 to 1974. I remember we had some pilots from England, they did their preflight inspections a lot different than the American pilots, and they were a lot friendlier to me. I'm sorry but I always liked the F4 Phantom better because to me it seemed like a sports car more than the silly Aardvark.

The 111 is called a "Fighter", but it's more a TAC-sized bomb truck....that can go Mach 2!
@jumpercable208 ай бұрын
@@Name-ps9fx I agree, to call it a fighter is a stretch of the imagination, it was just too large and bulky. I guess it could have been in a few dog fights but other fighters could fly rings around it.

... the "Spark-Vark" ... did not use guns or rockets to shoot down enemy planes ... they could just 'light" you up w/ EM's ... and fly you into the ground at -200ft f at + Mark #'s ....

This video is just too poor to be used, but the subject matter is very interesting.

Horrible mistake to retire F-111 and EF-111. New avionics new engines new paint job new airplane!
