Hi, thanks for watching. Sirens should only be used when you are wanting to let other road users know you are close to them or to give them warnings that you are around them. Some people use them way to much and their is no point in using them for no reason. We are tought to use them to our advantage by waring other people to make it safer for everyone. Having sirens on does affect all drivers differently. It gets the heart racing which sometimes makes your driving worse.

Great drive. Interesting up here in scotland when in built up areas we now have to keep the sirens on. Rural roads only when you think it will advantageous. Hated doing the commentary but made me a better driver.

Diagonal white lines (hatched markings) bounded by broken lines may be used in the centre of the road to separate opposing flows of traffic. They are often provided at junctions to protect traffic turning right. They may also be used on the approach to a central traffic island or the startof a dual carriageway. Hatched markings with a single, broken boundary line may be usedat the edge of the road or next to the central reservation of a dual carriageway

Hi Thanks for watching. Yea the Meriva obviously went into a sudden panic and just freezed!!! Giving people the early signal with road position is key to driving on blue lights as you just cant trust any other road user.

That was a nice tidy drive. Good use of the siren too. In any case, with a Fire Appliance you usually have a crew chief in the passenger seat & it's his job to operate the siren & act as the drivers 2nd pair of eyes. Well, that's what my EFAD training taught me.

This is actually different depending on the brigade. In Kent we've removed the OIC's siren switch completely so it's just driver-operated.

@@nathansvlog - to me that would appear to be a backwards step - do you know what the reasoning behind it was ?
@PaulMaceOfficial
@PaulMaceOfficial 8 сағат бұрын
@@pedantik I would disagree that it's backwards. The driver is the one best placed to decide which tone is appropriate for the immediate situation. Many officers in London were operating the sirens without ever having had any driver training. In this clip the driver could definitely have used the siren more or at least have left it on for longer. If you are wrong the side of the road you absolutely need to be making an audible warning. At 2:20 he sees 2 cyclists and says he's using the siren "just to let them know and then I'll turn them off". Only 1 of the cyclists actually acknowledges/recognises what is going on however this driver continues to progress without audible warning. That's a mistake in my opinion.

Thats an absolutely awesome(to coin an american phrase) video. its nice to see that 99% of drivers use common sense and react to allow a clear passage, although i did notice the meriva on the roundabout being a bit cheeky,,.

Just my thoughts as after a morning of having it on in its various tones you soon get used to it :-) But a good drive their mate TBH and I suppose its what your particular service/Force decides in its SOP's is what you abide by so good effort mate!

Hi, great video. it was really interesting to hear the commentary. I was wondering what the regulations were regarding the sirens? Why are they switched on and off for example?

Great vid but i think at 2:15 i would have gone left and not taken the risk of the railway crossings being down.

Is it just me or does constantly turning the siren on and off spell danger?? My training taught me in built up areas especially just leave the flaming thing on as there are hazards all around often hidden, prime example in this video was the line of buses to the offside and the pedestrian crossing just after where two women were mid-crossing and you turned the siren off!! Otherwise a safe drive all in all :-)

I was told to keep it on in urban areas except when stationary not to force traffic through. Each brigade will be different. Up here in scotland all fire emergency response drivers follow the same Book as the police use the constant commentary Inn training was horrible at times 😂

You wanna try response driving with the Scottish police mate, that ain't no commentary!! (just messing mate) I would like to comment on the use of the siren as I can see you have already posted something on this. From my training I was told when urban driving just leave it on, as when there are that many hazards you don't want to react to something and then have to think about turning it on, could be too late?? As its always asked in blue light crashes was the siren on or should it of been on??

Leave that siren alone and get on with driving, way too many hazards in a built up area to keep asessing. Leave the siren on, and change tones when needed. Sorry to be critical, I just get frustrated at how many emergency drivers dont use sirens enough these days. All the best, Steve.

Do you drive emergency vehicles? Sirens are used to worn people,. There is no point driving with sirens on when you have no hazards, or no one to worn. I hear too many emergency vehicles using sirens for no reason, its as if they've got them on because they enjoy the sound.
@stevenkiel6452
@stevenkiel6452 8 жыл бұрын
In response to the above yes I do and the issue with turning it on and off is drivers can often believe its on when in fact it's not so the current theory being taught is to leave it going in built up/urban areas as if you need to switch it on when travelling at speed you may not have the time from spotting the hazard to reacting thus being too late in warning people. Please do contradict me if you wish but also do tell me the justification you would use in court if you flatten some poor sod and have to admit the siren wasn't activated.

Agree Steve about the use of sirens. There was an approach to a Pedestrian Crossing after a bus stop. Sirens were turned off prior to 3rd bus and before crossing. frequently before they passed traffic and resulted in confusion. Use sirens until risk passed, ie shopping parade etc.

@urbex2007 Have you reported your findings to the government department that deals with the emergency services? I think it's incredibly important that you do if you have proof of this.
