I think the bored Death theory is the best way to go with this series. Death is the one giving clues and making purposeful fakeouts and fake rules just to mess with these people.

So you know how people constantly make jokes about that log truck? Well my sister had her own final destination moment a few years ago. She was driving on the far right lane on the highway and a semi truck on the right lane going the opposite direction blew a tire and veered across the entire highway. The truck was carrying a bunch of metal poles (about 10-15 feet long, 6 inches in diameter), these poles were not secured… at all, no straps or anything of the sort. Apparently they were only traveling a mile or two up the highway and couldn’t be bothered. These poles, were thrown from the trailer all over the highway causing a minivan in front of my sister to flip over, landing on its roof. But the reason I say my sister had a “final destination” moment was because one of these very large, very heavy poles went straight through her windshield and came out through the driver side door getting within 2-3 inches of hitting her. All in all, over 10 cars were collected in the accident and my sister, who came out the worst of those involved, was fortunate to walk away with a mild concussion and a fractured wrist and collar bone. My (now) brother in law was actually on the phone with her when it happened and got to the scene before any first responders could. He would later spend two days searching the wrecked car for her engagement ring which he found. My sister has always had a great sense of humor so now when ever you ask her what her favorite movie is, she says “Final destination 2”.

15:59 - This guy's death reminds me of the death of Alucard from Dracula A.D. 1972. Van Helsing literally doesn't do much more than use a crucifix to repel him, the idiot then stumbles around, removes the blinds so the sunlight burns him, then stumbles into the bathroom to hide and instead falls under the shower (running water), killing himself. Basically, he was too stupid to live.

This series becomes a lot funnier when imagine Death from Terry Pratchett's "DiscWorld" or Grim from "Billy & Mandy" are the ones doing the killing. 😆💀

So, thoughts on why Death decides to do things like "throw pigeons at someone until they're really pissed off with pigeons, so they'll angrily shoo them and then I can drop something on them" rather than just drop something in the first place? Is Death doing these on a bet? Are his co-workers coming up with dumb scenarios, perhaps while drunk?

I've watched all of these films a few times, and I think the cop taking an entire log to the face is probably still the peak of this series. Also that TV is in Ali Larter's padded room so she can watch the entire Resident Evil movie series on repeat :^)

I also like how nobody picked up that Dr. Kavarkian was an extremely clumsy reference to Dr. Kevorkian.

He was pinned and the elevator went up while his colleague saw half his head ride up with her 4 floors. Apparently the wires were faulty. The mechanism that detects objects in a door jam failed as well as one that controlled for closed doors before operation. Gnarly shit.

The car crash scene in the FD2 is the highlight of the whole franchise.

One thing (that no body mentions) bothers me. Ali Larter returning to America from France after they learn Death isn't finished with them. Not only does Death not finish her off before getting to America but that she was willing to make the voyage. Not that we can't contrive an explanation. Death waited six months for no reason at the end of the first movie. And France deported her after her visa expired. She kept freaking out on airplanes so they shipped her in a cage.

Fun fact: Kimberly and Burke are the only protagonists not dead or at least not directly implied to be dead at the end of the series.

I'm more interested about Final Destination from Death's perspective. This would make an interesting game or comic. You follow a death as they attempt to kill people according to a list. Each action incurs a cost and death tries to get it done as cost effectively as possible. I.E. bursting the tire of a car to cause a crash costs 500 points, where it only costs 100 points to make the guy in the back drop their cigarette. EDIT: Partially borrowing another idea: A manga I read has a concept where a god is able to interfere with the world at will, but any interference they do comes at a cost. If the cost for an action exceeds a point, the god would straight up die. So they try to interfere as subtly as possible so as to make it practically free of charge.

I think the rule is supposed to be that you can't skip your time without intervention from another person in the cycle. I can't think of any exceptions to that rule thus far. Also, if there are in other movies I'm not sure that would count, as they could have just ignored it and vice versa.

The opening to this is the most iconic part of the series. A lot of people are wary of flat bed trucks because of it, despite the physics being ridiculous.

I've a new way of looking at it. All those things that almost happen are necessary from a writing perspective to keep you guessing. But in universe all those things happen because when death is actively trying to kill you, it hedges its bets and just twists fate in a bunch of different ways to make your death more likely, it can't directly just kill you. And she has the ability to see which one of those ways is going to play out in the end and has the ability to alter them.

I blame Dracula for not keeping Death on a tighter leash. Even IF man may be in a miserable pile-up of secrets. Also the premonition about her own death in the water in the end is stupid... cuz that means she knews of her vision originally as well which means it's then a bootstrap Paradox where she always had the vision to begin with, and thus it wouldn't have been part of death's plan.

I'm very glad that YMS is on these, his personality works very well in getting across his point of what he looks for in films, he doesn't buckle and surrender his point just for being the odd one out nor betray his own feelings for what would be considered "correct". I'm happy to hear ones objective take on what works/doesn't work in a film, but the subjective view is needed to ground everyone to remind what you're watching in the first place.

You missed an opportunity with a thud sound and "what'dja bring me" using the post-grill arm. I'm undecided whether that's good or bad though.

I have a funny story regarding this movie. We came late to the hype of Final Destination here on Argentina. So, we watched the second movie on DVD in my house. It was a Friday night, and we used to get together with some friends around those times. We just had finished watching this movie, and 3 minutes later, as we were discussing the stupid things that happened on it, we hear a weird "Ting" sound on the ceiling of my room. and the cable that was used to connect the internet that went all around the ceiling, fell down and went straight to all of the people sitting on the couch in front of the TV. We all went silent, and we started pan the room in complete silence, checking onto each other. Never had in my life laughed so hard about something so stupid. But, yeah, it was weird at the moment, because of all the sequence.

I'm already loving this series. One thing that popped into my head was applying objective stuff to the first Nightmare on Elm Street, cuz I think that film has consistent rules (until the ending that is) and I was curious if the fact that its dream stuff would hamper any sort of that. I love the film and the series but it ain't consistent at all that's for sure.

I like the idea of fucking up Death’s plan results in it cascading into other people cheating death. That’s a neat concept and gives a nice excuse for sequels (if they ever bring it up again), even if the connection with the bathroom “suicide” was as far fetched as the death itself. Though, this movie immediately fucked up itself and all future sequels by confirming that you cannot kill yourself/die(?) if it’s not your turn in the cycle. I do not need to see any of the other movies to know that will be a plot hole eventually. Also the ways to break/escape the cycle. At least with the creation of new life, that’s something not easily replaced. But temporarily dying is something that can be bullshitted by a variety of ways, and again, I don’t need to see the remaining movies to *know* that rule *will* be broken, if not forgotten all together. Tis an eventuality. Edit: Ok, so the not committing suicide rule was kept intact, but so many other issues cropped up that it pretty much negated that achievement. Still, seeing a fat guy hanging while being completely fine was pretty funny.

This is the most polished under-rated gem ever!! I like it better than the 1st. OK but the pigeons are trolls! They were about to eat and a charred arm fell on the table from a shed exploding, "I don't think it's self aware" ..

this reminds me of when i had to have my back mollar removed. They didnt wait for the lightacain to actually take effect and called mea liar when i told them it hurt.

It doesn't occur to these psychic main characters to pull an Anya Forger and at least make an excuse to prevent the disaster instead of yelling "I SAW ALL YOUR DEATHS!! BLARG!!!"? The highway patrol's death seemed to be a major piece of that sequence of events (at least from her perspective) so at least having *him* off the road is ideal. There was dialogue about weed earlier so she could've drove like she did, get the cop's attention and said "yeah, we got ganja with the wind here!" Getting arrested for possession is preferable to death. Then when all the bizarre deaths start, she can confide to her friends about her premonition and what was really going on when it becomes more plausible. At least with the first film, yelling that the plane will blow up could've had an effect of getting as many people off on a pretense that it had a bomb or something. Being psychic would be the least likely scenario to everyone witnessing.

I'd like to point out that these doctors shocked asystole and somehow got a workable rhythm, which is a common Hollywood trope, but I still like to point it out when it happens because it's stupid

During the first time i watched the first one a light fixture fell from the ceiling. That was pretty cool.

I know it clearly wasn't the case but it would funny if the whole bit with the baby being the new life was actually true and everyone from the traffic accident was safe from death. Eugene's death was just an unfortunate by-product of not-psychic lady from the 1st movie being killed off by death (or just an accident from the left overs of death's trickshot setup)... and then protag lady just randomly stole the ambulance and drove off into the water because she thought about it.

I just realized that the second movie ruined the biggest plot of the franchise because in every movie the characters that we thought survived later died, usually in the scene right before the end credits, except for FD 2 meaning the main character killing themself and then being brought back to life worked but this wasn’t done in any of the other movies. I haven’t seen the movies in a while so I could be wrong.
