Sole is a difficult fish to catch. Pulse trawls are particularly efficient in catching sole. This video explains how pulse trawling works, and what its effects are on different species of flatfish and roundfish.

I thought this actually was a better way of fishing because the nets wouldn't dig through the seabed. Is this true? Because the video still shows the nets digging through the seabed

No, the nets hover slightly above the bottom.

The fish stocks are dwindling as man develops more sophisticated ways of catching them and uses "factory Trawlers" to process the fish. We are doing untold damage to sea life and sea beds yet we cannot stop ourselves continuing with the destruction. I understand electric pulse fishing has now been banned but we have to go a lot further if we want to return our seas to productive healthy environments.

What you do in your own waters is up to you, but keep your pulses out of British territory.

The UK has now banned this appalling practise, as it has live exports. The EU thinks treating animals like shit is OK, so good riddance.

Are you in favour of electric fences on farms? They're extremely widespread in the UK.

@@gronno Animals are smart enough to figure out electric fences very quickly. I don't think electric fences pose any risk to them other than a minor annoyance. Pulse fishing actually makes the sole and other bottom dwellers curl up in agony so they pop out of the mud, where they were hiding, and get scooped up by the net. The stray current also screws up other marine life's navigation and hunting sensors - basically, bad news all round.

Cattle and horses soon figure out if the fence is off. Banning pulse will make trawlers revert to more invasive and seabed damaging methods. BTW this was already banned by the EU and due to come into effect this year.

UK? Northern Ireland can still export so again not true. Guess what will happen, live exports from England and Wales will continue via N Ireland but the government gets a nifty headline again, which as usual collapses under the meerest scrutiny.
