Dr. Daniel Gale discusses the importance of rare kidney diseases in nephrology. Focusing upon seminal epidemiological data from the UK National Registry of Rare Kidney Diseases (RaDaR) cohort, which was published in March 2024 in the Lancet, he explains how much these diseases contribute to the burden of kidney failure.
Dr. Daniel Gale is nephrologist; he holds the St Peter’s Chair of Nephrology at University College London, where he leads the Centre for Genetics and Genomics in the Department of Renal Medicine. He is director of the RaDaR registry, which includes over 30,000 patients recruited at more than 100 UK hospitals, and which aims to understand the impact these rare diseases have on the overall burden of kidney failure..
