@soppoi123

Nope, because you have to get below your opponents hips. But O-goshi is one of the basic throws in Judo and also a stepping stone to many of the other Koshi-waza (hip techniques) in Judo. So keep doing it!

if performed properly it's entirely fine you just have the disadvantage that in many throws you need to focus on lowering yourself extra compared to average height people.

Question I’m a bjj guy so I won’t know the names of any of the variations but could you take a belt grip instead of the one on the back ?
@EfficientJudo
@EfficientJudo Жыл бұрын
You can, but having control of the back will generally allow you to close the space better. Also for beginners, using a belt grip can, in my opinion, encourage them to try and use the arm to lift the opponent rather than using the hips, which makes for a less efficient throw. I guess the question back to you is why use the belt?

@@EfficientJudo My sensei said that there is alternate judo throws.
@EfficientJudo
@EfficientJudo 3 жыл бұрын
@@danterobles4819 to alter a throw means changing this one - to use an alternate throw would mean using a different throw completely - if you feel your opponent is too big to throw with O-goshi, try using a throw which doesn't require any lifting - something like a tai-otoshi
@danterobles4819
@danterobles4819 3 жыл бұрын
@@EfficientJudo is it important to memorize the throws names?
@EfficientJudo
@EfficientJudo 3 жыл бұрын
@@danterobles4819 Yes and No - the names of the throws describe the mechanics of the throw (with a few exceptions). Most people will pick up the names over time, and I don't think people need to study the names outside of hearing them in class. I'll also say that the names are quite simple once you understand the various words that make the names e.g. Otoshi means drop - so you know that every technqiue with otoshi in the name has a dropping mechanic to it. E.g. tai-otoshi, seoi-otoshi, uki-otoshi, sumi-otoshi. There are not that many words used for naming techniques.

I thought grabbing the back is an unconventional hold
@EfficientJudo
@EfficientJudo 4 жыл бұрын
No - unconventional kumikata are things like pistol grips, pocket grips, belt grips, cross grips and same sided grips. In a kenka yotsu scenario, its common for both players to be holding a grip around the back - you still need to keep the attack rate up, like you do with any grip in IJF rules. And even so, unconventional gripping is allowed, as long as you attack quickly.

Most people are right handed though, and I would say pretty nice form, but uhm, your legs are supposed to be in an oval form, and bent a lot, and you should step back that far
@EfficientJudo
@EfficientJudo 4 жыл бұрын
It's about the right throw for the right situation - if both people are the same stance then trying to force an O-goshi isn't necessarily going to be the best option. The throw comes more naturally from a opposite stances.
