I like how spike hesitates at the last verse, as if afraid. After all those years it still hurts him.

well i think that's the true him as much as he's the punk vampire that's an asshole his true heart or soul is a poet with deep emotion

Besides being a great scene (and IMHO a better ending for the character than he got in Chosen), I always liked the irony that he was literally following Angel's instructions to "live the day as if it were your last" to the letter as he literally did the exact same thing he did on the last day of his human life.

I think effulgent is also what he’s referring to in s7 e3 when he asks Buffy “what’s a word that’s means glowing? It’s gotta rhyme…” I never realized how much they referenced it till now.
@BriaBella Жыл бұрын
Yes good observation. He was losing his mind and I think all his lives were clashing in his head at once. Buffy was his light..so I thought it was a nice touch they connected his poem, with the word "effulgent" baring so much weight on what drove him to vampirism, to Buffy. He also said that to her in S6 Hell's Bells after they broke up. He tells her how he likes seeing her happy for friends..."You glow"...is what he said to her. 😍

When I watched the final episode of Angel, I was wondering what Spike was going to do with his last hours on Earth. I figured he was going to get drunk and fight random people when I saw him getting the first shot at the bar, but reciting poetry was a stroke of genius! I love the description of this video :D

There's me wanting to add a comment to a thread and realizing the thread contains a comment from my 2-years-ago self 🤦 This time around I was going to say that it's interesting how end-of-the-road Spike is at peace with his human past (William) whereas soulless Spike hated and was embarrassed by William, which is why he (and Hallie, for her own reasons) was not prepared to admit that they'd known each other.

ef·ful·gent /əˈfo͝oljənt,əˈfəljənt/ adjective: shining brightly; radiant. (of a person or their expression) emanating joy or goodness. I wonder if they had that planned out when he died in Sunnydale at the end of Buffy.
@askarsfan20112 жыл бұрын
I would bet on it. Spike was looking for effulgence in other people, but at the end of Chosen, he found it within himself.
@thelordofsalem30444 жыл бұрын
Good for Spike having the courage to perform his poetry in front of a live audience. He probably hadn't done it for an awful long time due to the bad reception he would get from poets of his times. I like to think Angel inspired him to write poetry again after he admitted to him how much he loved his poems way back from when they were both evil, which is the only thing Angel ever liked about Spike.

I've seen folks write that he was actually called William the Bloody and Spike b/c his poetry was 'bloody awful,' and made folks want to put a 'spike in my head.' But I think that after he became a vampire, he sought revenge and went back to all those who mocked him to give them a new definition of William the Bloody and to fulfill their 'wish' of having a spike put in their heads.

I had totally missed this, but you all may know, Halfrek was played by the same actress who played Cecily (Kali Rocha). Apparently, Whedon and Company have admitted that Cecily was Halfrek, even during the flashback, she was a vengence demon and was in England to take care of some business.
