@@petergriffin383 Sure, if the job is T&M (time + materials). If it's a quoted job, then no. I do a mix of T&M and quoted, however, even with T&M jobs, you still need to work quickly. Some of the deadlines I've been under were incredibly tight, so no - a tool like this is not going to work for me.

If you had to cut 60 wires, then remove 60 insulation, then crimp 60 wires it might work. Otherwise if you have to do everything at once before moving to the next piece it would take way too long. That being said the only thing I can see that's good about replaceable dies in long term maintenance of the tool.

I had the same thought. The first day I use the damn thing, I'd lose the jaw attachments.

Terrible design. Good crimpers usually have a button to push to release the dies which is intuitive and fast.

$850, 648 Pounds. Expensive but the Milwaukee tool only is $2500.

Most hydraulic crimpers do a signifigantly better job at crimping than what was shown in this video. There are some tools that you just can't make electric.

Not if you're crimping big stuff. The ferrules they showed here can easily be done by hand, though.

I used one of these when i did some electrical work for a company (assembly line type of job). If you have to crimp big things, or a lot of small things (hundreds), than this tool is amazing! If i was an electrician who works with thick wires i would buy this tool in a heart beat.

Key word, versatility. I have yet to see a large crimper that cuts as well as crimps ferrules.

A senior coworker just told me today ”It’s different when you have to a lot of these”. Manual tools are good when you need them once a while, but for several wires these are better.

@@XXXkazeXXX not in my experience. I'm a HD auto electrician with 20yrs on tools. I've crimped more cable than you could even imagine. I've used electric, hydraulic and manual crimp tools. Manual is my go to, because it works, it's simple, and you don't need to change dies for each size lug. Best for workflow

@@BramBiesiekierski And my experience from today was that I had to use my full bodyweight to crimp down cable ends because both electric ones were busted. Took way more time and wore me out more than if I had electric tools at hand.

You should always use ferrules on stranded wire if it's going to be held in place with a screw terminal. It's code in many places.

Overkill on smaller stuff a bloody life saver if you've got to do bulk 50mm2+.

​@@hannahrangathis klauke won't go up to 50mm2 but we use it for 16mm2 and for the simple cable shoes. (Idk if it is the right word, it's literally translated)

If I had one of these id probably leave one set in for the actual crimp part to save from the manual pressure for that style end. My process would be: use normal cutters to cut the wire, use this to crimp it, vs all the extra time of changing out blades, dies etc.

Solder is vastly inferior to a proper crimp.

That's for splices and mid-assembly repair. Grounds should be crimped. But I'd still stick a sleeve on the end (for ID purposes and extra protection)

Agreed, with a manual tool I'll often do two crimps. That seemed very insufficient.

That narrow crimp was non compliant. Multiple narrow crimps with strain relieving flare at conductor entry is the norm.

While this will definitely work, in order for the factory specifications to apply to current load ect a crimp must be properly crimped from all directions toward the center. Using a vice only crimps from two sides and not from all sides like an actual crimper tool would. Using a vice can also produce a physically weaker crimp for the same reason as it is only crimping from two sides rather than all directions.

if you are doing cables for 6 hours a day every day, you will get the 3 individual tools... for several reasons: 1. if your tool breaks you are out for the day. 2. continually changing the heads will get annoying and frustrating after 1 hour 3. the price is way too high for that tool...
